Molybdic acid-functionalized silica-based Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2-MoO3H) are found to be a powerful and magnetically recyclable nanocatalyst. The morphology and structure of this nanocatalyst were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), thermo gravimetric analyses (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) techniques. Real-time monitoring of tumor drug delivery in vivo is a daunting challenge due to the heterogeneity and complexity of the tumor microenvironment. QueF enzymes catalyze the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)-dependent reduction of the nitrile group of 7-cyano-7-deazaguanine (preQ₀) to 7-aminomethyl-7-deazaguanine (preQ₁) in the biosynthetic pathway to the tRNA modified nucleoside queuosine. The QueF-catalyzed reaction includes formation of a covalent thioimide intermediate with a conserved active site cysteine that is prone to oxidation in vivo. Here, we report the crystal structure of a mutant of QueF, which reveals an unanticipated intramolecular disulfide formed between the catalytic Cys55 and a conserved Cys99 located near the active site.

This paper presents the optimal design and operation frequency (f) of an inductively-powered homecage for powering biomedical devices with millimeter (mm) dimensions, implanted inside the body of freely-behaving small animal subjects, for longitudinal behavioral neuroscience and electrophysiology experiments. In order to improve the power transmission efficiency (PTE) for powering mm-sized implants, the geometry of the multi-coil inductive links in the form of 3- and 4-coil links as well as fp need to be co-optimized. A simplified equation for the PTE of 3-coil inductive links for powering mm-sized implants has been derived, based on which the optimal geometries and fp of a 3-coil link have been found using a commercial field solver (HFSS).

In order to achieve omnidirectional inductive power transmission to biomedical implants, the use of several orthogonal coils in the receiver side (Rx) has been proposed in the past. In this paper, the optimal Rx structure for connecting three orthogonal Rx coils and the power management is found to achieve the maximum power delivered to the load (PDL) in the presence of any Rx coil tilting. Unlike previous works, in which a separate power management has been used for each coil to deliver power to the load, different resonant Rx structures for connecting three Rx coils to a single power management are studied.

In the present work, the adsorption of glycine amino acid and its zwitterionic form onto three different hexagonal sheets, namely graphene, boron-nitride (h-BN) and silicon carbide (h-SiC), has been investigated within the framework of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. The energetics and geometrical parameters of the considered systems have been explored at the GGA-PBE level in combination with Grimme's empirical dispersion corrections with Becke-Johnson damping, the DFT-D3(BJ) method.
