Background: Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is one of the most common conditions for neonate inpatients. Indonesia faces a major challenge in which different guidelines regarding the management of this condition were present. This study aimed to compare the existing guidelines regarding prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring in order to create the best recommendation for a new hyperbilirubinemia guideline in Indonesia.

Study Design: We included 59 patients from the Early vs Late Ventricular Intervention Study from 4 participating centers. VV was manually segmented in 209 3-dimensional ultrasound scans and estimated from 2-dimensional ultrasound linear measurements in a total of 1226 ultrasounds.
Hyperbilirubinemia is more frequently seen in low and middle-income countries like Indonesia. One of the contributing factors is a substandard dose of Phototherapy irradiance. This research aims to design a phototherapy intensity meter called PhotoInMeter using readily available low-cost components.

Background: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), glial-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), and fatty acid-binding protein-2 (FABP-2) in preterm infants on the incidence of NEC.
Methods: Preterm infants with a birth weight <1,500 g and gestational age <34 weeks were included in this study. Biomarker examination was performed using the umbilical vein blood at birth (first sample).
Introduction: Fluconazole is an important antifungal in the prevention and treatment of invasive infections in neonates, even though its use in preterm infants is still off-label. Here, we performed a population pharmacokinetic study on fluconazole in preterm neonates in order to optimise dosing through the identified predictive patient characteristics.
Methods: Fluconazole concentrations obtained from preterm infants from two studies were pooled and analysed using NONMEM V.
Background: The aim of this systematic qualitative review was to give an overview of reference ranges defined as normal values or centile charts of regional tissue oxygen saturation measured by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in term and preterm neonates.
Methods: A systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials was performed. Additional articles were identified by manual search of cited references.
Eye exam for Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a painful procedure and pharmacological analgesia might be ineffective. We hypothesized that magnetic auricular acupuncture (MAA) compared to placebo will decrease pain during ROP exam in preterm infants. Multicentre randomized controlled trial conducted in three hospitals (Australia, Canada, and Malaysia).

Study Design: This multicenter randomized controlled trial reviewed lumbar punctures initiated after either a low threshold (ventricular index of >p97 and anterior horn width of >6 mm) or high threshold (ventricular index of >p97 + 4 mm and anterior horn width of >10 mm). The composite adverse outcome was defined as death or cerebral palsy or Bayley composite cognitive/motor scores <-2 SDs at 24 months corrected age.
Background: Doxapram is used for the treatment of apnea of prematurity in dosing regimens only based on bodyweight, as pharmacokinetic data are limited. This study describes the pharmacokinetics of doxapram and keto-doxapram in preterm infants.
Methods: Data (302 samples) from 75 neonates were included with a median (range) gestational age (GA) 25.
Aims: Racemic ibuprofen is widely used for the treatment of preterm neonates with patent ductus arteriosus. Currently used bodyweight-based dosing guidelines are based on total ibuprofen, while only the S-enantiomer of ibuprofen is pharmacologically active. We aimed to optimize ibuprofen dosing for preterm neonates of different ages based on an enantiomer-specific population pharmacokinetic model.

Recently, the first human with MKL1 deficiency, leading to a novel primary immunodeficiency, was identified. We report a second family with 2 siblings with a homozygous frameshift mutation in MKL1.

Background: Fentanyl is frequently used off-label in preterm newborns. Due to very limited pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data, fentanyl dosing is mostly based on bodyweight. This study describes the maturation of the pharmacokinetics in preterm neonates born before 32 weeks of gestation.

Recently, a new dosing advice for midazolam for sedation on intensive care units has been included in the label (0.03 mg/[kg·h] for preterm neonates <32 weeks and 0.

Study Design: In the Early vs Late Ventricular Intervention Study (ELVIS) trial, 126 preterm infants ≤34 weeks of gestation with posthemorrhagic ventricular dilatation were randomized to low-threshold (ventricular index >p97 and anterior horn width >6 mm) or high-threshold (ventricular index >p97 + 4 mm and anterior horn width >10 mm) groups. In 88 of those (80%) with a term-equivalent age-MRI, the Kidokoro Global Brain Abnormality Score and the frontal and occipital horn ratio were measured.
Aims: Evidence for drug use in newborns is sparse, which may cause large differences in drug prescriptions. We aimed to investigate the differences between neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in the Netherlands in currently prescribed drugs.
Methods: This multicentre study included neonates admitted during 12 months to four different NICUs.

Methods: Seven newborn lambs under general anesthesia were connected to the TPUD monitor (COstatus™) after insertion of arterial and central venous catheters. A Gore-Tex® shunt, inserted between the descending aorta and left pulmonary artery, was intermittently opened and closed while cardiac output was varied by blood withdrawals.

Background: Research regarding the etiology of birth defects and childhood cancer is essential to develop preventive measures, but often requires large study populations. Therefore, we established the AGORA data- and biobank in the Netherlands. In this study, we describe its rationale, design, and ongoing data collection.

The ECMO flow rate was decreased from the maximal achievable level to 50 mL min1 with steps of 50 mL min1 every 2 minutes. Changes in mean arterial blood pressure (MABP), left common carotid artery blood flow (Qcar), and other physiologic variables were continuously measured.

Design: A retrospective observational study.
Setting: A Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Background: Neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a lifesaving therapeutic approach in newborns suffering from severe, but potentially reversible, respiratory insufficiency, mostly complicated by neonatal persistent pulmonary hypertension. However, cerebral damage, intracerebral hemorrhage as well as ischemia belong to the most devastating complications of ECMO.
Objectives: The objectives are to give insights into what is known from the literature concerning cerebral damage related to neonatal ECMO treatment for pulmonary reasons.
