Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between maximal standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of primary colon cancer and serum neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and to assess the prognostic value of SUVmax and serum NLR in stage I and II colon cancer patients.
Methods: In this retrospective study a total of 128 patients with pathologically confirmed stage I and II colon cancer diagnosed between January 2014 and December 2017 were included. All patients underwent F-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) and differential white blood cell (WBC) counts before surgery.
Background: Evidence is lacking regarding the earliest timing of initiating adjuvant chemotherapy to maximize its efficacy safely. A trial was designed and conducted to evaluate the safety and oncological efficacy of early adjuvant chemotherapy compared with conventional adjuvant chemotherapy. The short-term outcomes are reported here.

Inhibition of 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH), which degrades prostaglandin E (PGE2), promotes tissue repair and regeneration in many organs. PGE2 causes intrarenal arterial vasodilation.

AKI due to ischemic injury represents a significant clinical problem. PGE is vasodilatory in the kidney, but it is rapidly degraded in vivo due to catabolism by 15-PGDH.

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) has been found to be associated with the development and repair mechanisms of several renal diseases. In this study, we hypothesized that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in EGF or its receptor genes might have an association with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or acute renal allograft rejection (AR) in a Korean population. Here, we demonstrate a supramolecular latching tool for bio-orthogonal noncovalent anchoring of small synthetic molecules in live animal models using a fully synthetic high-affinity binding pair between cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) and adamantylammonium (AdA). This supramolecular latching system is small (∼1 kDa), ensuring efficient uptake into cells, tissues, and whole organisms. It is also chemically robust and resistant to enzymatic degradation and analogous to well-characterized biological systems in terms of noncovalent binding.

Methods: A total of 137 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer were retrospectively enrolled in this study, and data were collected retrospectively. The patients had undergone a total mesorectal excision after neoadjuvant CRT.
The POU transcription factor OCT4 is critical for maintaining the undifferentiated state of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and generating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), but its precise mechanisms of action remain poorly understood. Here, we investigated the role of OCT4 phosphorylation in the biological functions of ESCs. We observed that c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) directly interacted with and phosphorylated OCT4 at serine 347, which inhibited the transcriptional activity of OCT4.

This case report presents an unusual case of cholangiocarcinoma arising nearly 35 years after cystoduodenostomy for choledochal cyst. The patient visited our hospital with dyspepsia and studies revealed bezoar within the choledochal cyst caused by bile and food reflux. The patient underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy and a biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma, stage IIB.

The study also compared the safety of laparoscopic gastrectomy, with respect to the 5-year survival rate and recurrence in terms of the oncologic results, with that of open gastrectomy.
Methods: This retrospective study included 424 patients with gastric cancer who had undergone gastrectomy at Busan Paik Hospital, Inje University, over a 5-year period from January 2010 to December 2014.
The prognosis associated with brain metastasis arising from breast cancer is very poor. Eribulin is a microtubule dynamic inhibitor synthesized from halichondrin B, a natural marine product. In a phase III study (EMBRACE), eribulin improved overall survival in patients with heavily pretreated metastatic breast cancers.
