Purpose: This study prospectively assessed the efficacy and safety of 532-nm diode laser glottoplasty in patients with sulcus vocalis.
Methods: A prospective human trial was performed from August 2016 to September 2021. 532-nm diode laser glottoplasty was performed in 30 consecutive patients with sulcus vocalis who suffered from voice problems.
Objectives: We evaluated the regenerative effect of a 532-nm diode laser in a rabbit model of vocal fold scarring.
Methods: This study included 40 male New Zealand white rabbits: 20 underwent vocal fold scar surgery only (control group) and 20 underwent 532-nm diode laser glottoplasty 1 month after vocal fold scar surgery (glottoplasty group). Histological and high-speed video analyses of vocal fold vibration were performed 1 month after vocal fold scar surgery and laser glottoplasty.
Objectives: We evaluated the preventive efficacy of stromal vascular fraction (SVF) for vocal fold scar in a rabbit model.
Study Design: Animal model.
Methods: The study included 40 male New Zealand white rabbits: 20 received vocal fold scar surgery served as normal controls (control group).
Background: Human omentum-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hO-MSCs) possess great potential to differentiate into multiple lineages and have self-renewal capacity, allowing them to be utilized as patient-specific cell-based therapeutics. Although the use of various stem cell-derived β-cells has been proposed as a novel approach for treating diabetes mellitus, developing an efficient method to establish highly functional β-cells remains challenging.
Methods: We aimed to develop a novel cell culture platform that utilizes a fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2)-immobilized matrix to regulate the adhesion and differentiation of hO-MSCs into insulin-producing β-cells via cell-matrix/cell-cell interactions.
The aim of this study was to develop evidence-based recommendations for determining the surgical extent in patients with locally invasive differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Locally invasive DTC with gross extrathyroidal extension invading surrounding anatomical structures may lead to several functional deficits and poor oncological outcomes. At present, the optimal extent of surgery in locally invasive DTC remains a matter of debate, and there are no adequate guidelines.

We described a case of a 48-year-old male with a parotid tumor with multiple enlarged ipsilateral lymph nodes which suggested a malignancy. The tumors had been neither evaluated nor excised and preoperative evaluation revealed benign PA in both lesions.

Parapharyngeal liposarcoma often causes nonspecific clinical features, including dysphagia, globus sensation, and/or respiratory disturbances. The parapharyngeal space is a rare location for head and neck liposarcoma, and these lesions may therefore be confused with a variety of other tumors that can originate in this area.

Impairments of taste and smell caused by COVID-19 are well known as otolaryngological sequelae. However, dysphonia due to bilateral vagal neuropathy has not been well described as a presenting symptom or complication of COVID-19 infection.

Voice change is a common complaint after thyroid surgery and has a significant impact on quality of life. The Korean Society of Laryngology, Phoniatrics and Logopedics assembled a task force to establish guideline recommendations on education, care, and management related to thyroid surgery. The guideline recommendations encompass preoperative voice education, management of anticipated voice change during surgery, and comprehensive voice care after thyroid surgery, and include in-depth information and up-to-date knowledge based on validated literature.

Design, Setting, And Participants: For animal experiments, 48 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups: 24 six-month-olds (young group) and 24 twenty-four-month-olds (old group). FGF was injected once a week thrice into the left vocal fold of the old group, dividing them into two sub-groups (injected [left] and uninjected [right]).
Background: The objective of this retrospective study was to identify predictors of an abscess guaranteed to be surgically drained successfully in patients with deep neck infection (DNI).
Materials And Methods: We divided 97 consecutive patients with DNI into a drained group and a non-drained group. We then developed a clinical prediction score and validated it in 32 further patients.
Objectives: This study compared and assessed long-term voice outcomes when thyroidectomy-related unilateral vocal fold paralysis (VFP) was managed using injection laryngoplasty (IL) and recurrent laryngeal nerve reinnervation (RLNR).
Study Design: Prospective clinical study.
Methods: A prospective clinical trial was performed from March 2005 to January 2016 at Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital (Bucheon, South Korea).
The association between chronic laryngitis and tinnitus is not a well-studied topic, unlike the association of these two conditions with many other disorders. Cross-sectional data of 11,347 adults (males: 4,934; females: 6,413), who completed the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2010 to 2012 were used to investigate this association. Lifestyle patterns, including smoking and alcohol habits, regular exercise, physical and mental health status, socioeconomic status, nutritional status, and other chronic diseases, were analyzed.

Methods: FGF was injected three times, at 1-week intervals, into a chronic vocal fold scar created in a rabbit model. After 1 month, mRNA level of procollagen I, hyaluronic acid synthetase 2 (HAS 2), and matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP 2) were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction.
Objectives/hypothesis: This study assessed the long-term efficacy and recurrence rates of percutaneous steroid injections (PSIs) for benign vocal fold lesions.
Study Design: Prospective clinical study.
Methods: A prospective human clinical trial was performed from October 2008 to September 2014 at Soonchunhyang University Hospital, Bucheon, Korea.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the incidence rates and predictive factors of superior mediastinal lymph node (SMLN) metastasis in PTC (papillary thyroid carcinoma) patients.
Methods: A prospective observational study was performed between January 2009 and January 2011. PTC patients who had tumors with a maximal diameter greater than 1 cm and clinically negative SMLNs were included in this study.
The injection material polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAAG; Ferrosan, Søborg, Denmark) is often used as space filler for soft-tissue defects. PAAG is a suitable alternative to the materials used for injection laryngoplasty. Over the past decade, 427 patients have undergone injection laryngoplasty in our clinic using PAAG, and no major complications, such as material migration or foreign body granuloma, were identified.
