An evaluation of the virus population in rice plants using next-generation sequencing technologies resulted in the discovery of a new RNA virus, tentatively named rice virus A (RVA). The complete RVA genome sequence was determined and analyzed, revealing a genome organization resembling that of viruses classified in the genera Aureusvirus, Tombusvirus and Zeavirus within the family Tombusviridae. With 4,832 nucleotides, the RVA genome may be the largest monopartite genome sequenced to date in the family Tombusviridae.

This is the first study to investigate antioxidant capacities of isoflavones prepared using microwave-assisted hydrolysis method from different parts (seeds, leaves, leafstalks, pods, stems and roots) of soybean at growth stages. In addition, the fluctuations in the isoflavone, protein, fatty acid, and oil contents in R6-R8 (R6: beginning; R7: beginning maturity; R8: full maturity) seeds were confirmed. The R7 seeds exhibited the most predominant contents of isoflavones (1218.

The changes in total P accumulation and P compounds with time in the plough layer in a paddy soil in southern Korea were investigated in relation to the continuous application of chemical fertilizers (NPK), straw based compost (Compost), combination these two (NPK+Compost) for 31 years. Continuous fertilization increased the total and inorganic P contents in plough layers. In NPK, inorganic P fraction did not change with time, but organic P content increased significantly.
