ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5), a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor, has been extensively characterized in dicots. In the present study, we have characterized OsCRY2 in a photoperiod sensitive indica variety, Basmati 370, by generating and analyzing overexpression (OE) and knock-down (KD) transgenic lines. Here, we identify OsATL53, a member of the ATL family of RING-H2 proteins that interacts with OsCCR14 in the cytoplasm. OsATL53 was identified in the same yeast two-hybrid library screening as reported previously for OsCCR14, and we show it to have cytoplasmic localization and E3 ligase ubiquitination properties.

Although malaria related cases and deaths have consistently declined over time, growing resistance to existing anti-malarial drugs in remains a matter of extreme concern. Since we rely so heavily on use of chemotherapy for malaria treatment and knowing that all the available anti-malarial drug will become virtually useless in the near future, we have to increase our understanding of basic biology of the parasite as well as characterize new molecular targets that can be exploited for anti-malarial therapy. Surprisingly, unlike OsFD1, OsFD7 interacts directly and more efficiently with OsFTLs; the interaction is strongest with OsFTL1 followed by Hd3a and RFT1, as confirmed by fluorescence lifetime imaging-Förster resonant energy transfer (FLIM-FRET) analysis. In addition, OsFD7 is phosphorylated at its C-terminal end by OsCDPK41 and OsCDPK49 in vitro, and this phosphorylated moiety is recognized by OsGF14 proteins.

Melatonin (Mel) is one such biomolecule produced in plant cells which has fascinated plant biologists with regard to its molecular crosstalk with other molecules to serve its roles as a growth regulator. Present work reports the synthesis of N-nitrosomelatonin (NOMela) and its preferential uptake by Arabidopsis seedlings roots and long distance transport to the leaves through vascular strands.
