Generation of reactive oxygen species, delayed blood clotting, prolonged inflammation, bacterial infection, and slow cell proliferation are the main challenges of effective wound repair. Herein, a multifunctional extracellular matrix-mimicking hydrogel is fabricated through abundant hydrogen bonding among the functional groups of gelatin and tannic acid (TA) as a green chemistry approach. The hydrogel shows adjustable physicochemical properties by altering the concentration of TA and it represents high safety features both in vitro and in vivo on fibroblasts, red blood cells, and mice organs.

Background: Recipients of organ transplant who are immunosuppressed are at greatly increased risk of nonmelanoma skin cancers compared with the general population, but their risk of appendageal tumors is unknown.

Objective: Our aim was to conduct a systematic examination of cutaneous appendageal tumors arising in recipients of organ transplants compared with individuals who were immunocompetent (ICP).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, clinicopathologic analysis of consecutive appendageal tumors arising in 650 recipients of organ transplants and in the general population of approximately 605,000 people served by our institution.

We report 3 patients with granulomatous cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) who showed necrobiosis histologically with palisading granulomas. Although granulomatous change may be present in up to 4% of cases of CTCL, necrobiosis is rare. Misdiagnosis may occur if epidermotropism is minimal or if atypical cells are masked by the granulomatous infiltrate.

A retrospective study of pathology reports of melanomas excised by general practitioners (GPs) was undertaken in the course of a population-based study of melanoma, with a telephone survey of the current practice of those GPs who had excised melanomas. The objectives of this study were to identify all cases of cutaneous melanoma excised by GPs in the North-East Thames Region between 1989 and 1993, and to review the management of those patients. The main outcome measures of the study were: (i) the patterns of distribution of GP excisions within the region; (ii) the histological subtypes of melanomas excised, the accuracy of the pre-excision clinical diagnosis and the adequacy of treatment of the GP-treated tumours compared with the control group; and (iii) the reported current practice in the management of pigmented skin lesions by the GPs who had excised melanomas.

p53 immunoreactivity was examined in 132 cutaneous non-melanoma tumours from renal transplant recipients and in 114 histologically matched specimens from immunocompetent individuals. Skin lesions examined included 52 viral warts, 50 dysplastic keratoses, 51 intraepidermal carcinomas (IEC), 50 invasive squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and 43 basal cell carcinomas (BCC). Overall, 51% (51/101) pre-malignant skin lesions and 45% (42/93) non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) showed p53 immunoreactivity, with extensive (> 50% cells positive) p53 staining in 27% (27/101) of pre-malignant and 20% (19/93) of malignant lesions.
