Qualitative and quantitative phospholipid composition of porcine deciduous teeth pulp was studied by microthin-layer chromatography. Basing on the differences in the levels of individual phospholipids in the pulp of deciduous and permanent teeth, the authors come to a conclusion on the inadequate structural organization and functional activity of the pulp of deciduous teeth.

Peculiarities of the binding of lectins of castor bean, cochlea, soya bean, lime bean and wheat germs to the surface of differential neuroblastoma C 1300 N 18 cells have been studied using the method electron cytochemistry. It is found that the quantity of the bound lectin conjugates with colloidal gold on the surface of differentiated cells varied considerably from that on the surface of nondifferentiated cells.

The methods of isotopic and fluorescent labels have shown that interaction of cells of neuroblastoma S 1300 N 18 with small one-layer neutral liposomes prepared of the egg phosphatidyl choline with the addition of different amounts of cholesterol is realized by two mechanisms: the transmembrane transfer of cholesterol by the concentration gradient and membrane lipid metabolism proper, the ratios of cholesterol phospholipids in the biological and artificial membranes being equal. A dependence is established of the neuroblastoma cell viability on the activity of the cholesterol membrane metabolism. A problem on the mechanism which causes the death of cells during the interaction with phosphatidyl-cholesterol liposomes is under discussion.

Statistical procedures were used to estimate lectin receptor distribution on the surface of ascite lymphoma cells, neuroblastoma C-1300 cells and of transformed human T- and B-derived lymphoid cell lines. Relationships between the arithmetic means and mean square variances for sample populations from each cell and ferritin- or colloidal gold-lectin combination were used to define four types of topographical distributions: uniform-ordered, uniform-random, random and clustered.

D-mannose, D-galactose, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and L-fucose which are sugar determinants of receptors were found on the surface of neuroblastoma cells by means of four carbohydrate-specific lectin groups. Labeling of lectins was performed by horseradish peroxidase, ferritin and colloidal gold. Peculiarities of the lectin receptors distribution on the surface of immature neuroblastoma cells were detected.

The nature and distribution of some carbohydrate receptors on the cell membrane of transformed human B- and T-derived lymphocyte cell lines (RPMI-1788, Daudi, Jurkat, Molt-4) are studied by Ricinus communis agglutinin, soybean agglutinin, Helix pomatia lectin, peanut agglutinin and wheat germ agglutinin conjugated with ferritin and colloidal gold. The quality of receptors and the manner of their distribution detected by different lectins are considerably different.

The submicroscopic organization and activity of acid phosphatase and catalase in lysosomes and peroxisomes of the rat hepatocytes were studied with experimental rachitis. It is determined that total and free activity of acid phosphatase in the liver tissue and certain lysosomes with rachitis increases whereas the catalase activity in the tissue and certain peroxisomes decreases. Permeability of the lysosome and peroxisome membranes rises for enzymes and cations.

The pyroantimonate and radiometric procedures were used to establish the presence of three foci of selective accumulation of ions Ca2+ in the myometrium smooth-muscular cells: in nuclei, mitochondria and endoplasmatic reticulum. In the epithelium of the womb glands, besides the same foci a considerable amount of ions Ca2+ is contained in the cytoplasm matrix. Under the effect of serotonin the myometrium nuclei lose 45Ca most actively in the epithelium cells of the womb glands the content of Ca2+ changes, that gives reason to suppose that these structure participate in the calcium redistribution with a change in the functional activity of myometrium.
