Background: Guidelines advocate pulmonary function testing (PFT) in preoperative evaluation before lung resection. Although forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) are recommended, they are often poor predictors of complications.

Objectives: Determine if PFT testing results other than FEV1 and DLCO are associated with post-operative complications.

The judicious use of crop input is of prime importance for achieving a considerable output with a low-cost input. A two-year field experimentation was executed to assess the effect of varying polymer-coated single super phosphate (SSP) regimes on the yield and quality of sugarcane under differential water regimes. A two-factor study was executed under a randomized complete block design with a split-plot arrangement.

Background: The aims of this study were to determine the rate of ectopic and supernumerary parathyroid glands and the outcome of surgical therapy in patients with refractory renal hyperparathyroidism.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of all patients who underwent parathyroidectomy for refractory renal hyperparathyroidism was completed. Operative and pathology reports were reviewed, and the number and location of resected parathyroid glands, patient outcomes, and follow-up were determined.

Background: Pulmonary function testing (PFT) is commonly used to risk-stratify patients prior to lung resection. Guidelines recommend that patients with reduced lung function, due to chronic lung conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), should receive additional physiologic testing to determine fitness for resection. We reviewed our experience with six-minute walk testing (SMWT) to determine the association of test results and post-operative complications.

Background: The average hospitalization after lung resection is 6 days, but some patients are discharged early in the post-operative period. The patient factors associated with early discharge (ED) and the safety of this approach are unknown. We hypothesized that specific patient populations are associated with ED, and that complications in this practice are low.

Bone involvement has exceptionally been reported in children with periarteritis nodosa. A 5-year old girl was admitted to hospital for fever and arthralgias. Three months later, myalgias and painful subcutaneous nodules developed on the legs and ankles.
