Operative versus nonoperative treatment of anterior cruciate ligament rupture in patients aged 40 years or older: an expected-value decision analysis.

Purpose: Our purpose was to determine the optimal treatment of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in patients aged 40 years or older.

Methods: Our method was expected-value decision analysis with sensitivity analysis, which is a systematic tool for quantitating clinical decisions. We evaluated 100 randomly selected individuals aged 40 years or older with regard to the following variables: age, gender, activity level (International Knee Documentation Committee form), and visual analog scale regarding potential outcome preferences.

Knee pain after tibial nailing: the role of nail prominence.

Unlabelled: We analyzed the relationship between knee pain after tibial nailing and nail prominence. We identified 70 patients in our trauma registry with healed fractures initially treated with intramedullary nails. Subjective pain and function were measured with visual analog pain scales and Lysholm knee scores at a mean of 20 months after fracture.
