Objective: The study aims to explore Resveratrol (RES) as a potential therapeutic agent for Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a challenging brain cancer. RES, a polyphenolic compound with known benefits in various diseases including cancer, has shown promise in inhibiting glioma progression through its effects on the AKT signaling pathways. However, its limited ability to cross the blood-brain barrier restricts its clinical application in GBM treatment.

Introduction: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a neurological disorder characterized by elevated intracranial pressure, predominantly affecting obese women of reproductive age. While GLP-1 receptor agonists have shown promise in IIH management, the potential of dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor activation through tirzepatide remains unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate tirzepatide's efficacy as an adjunctive therapy in IIH management.

Background: Antibiograms can optimize empirical antibiotic prescribing; however, they are not readily available for residential aged care facilities (RACFs) in Queensland, Australia. This study aimed to determine whether alternatively available data can be used to approximate resistance patterns for RACFs.

Methods: Annual RACF-specific antibiograms were compared with local hospital antibiograms accessed through pathology providers.

The second most prevalent neurological disease among the elderly is Parkinson's disease, where neuroinflammation plays a significant role in its pathology. Purinergic signaling mediated by P2X7 plays a significant role in neuroinflammation and pyroptotic cell death pathways through mediators like NLRP3, Caspase-1, and Caspase-3, instigating pyroptotic cell death. No synthetic agent advanced in late-stage clinical trials due to their inefficacy and toxicity.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is characterized by elevated intracranial pressure without a clear cause, often linked to cerebral venous sinus constriction from embryological or acquired factors. Although less common, brain tumors like parasagittal meningiomas can compress the superior sagittal sinus, leading to IIH. Venous stenting has become a minimally invasive and effective intervention for managing IIH caused by superior sagittal sinus stenosis, particularly when residual meningiomas continue to exert pressure on the sinus.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common herpes virus that usually causes mild or no symptoms in healthy people but can lead to serious complications in those who are immunocompromised or newborns, causing disabilities.
  • - A four-month-old girl presented with decreased feeding and severe anemia; lab tests revealed low blood cell counts and a urine CMV PCR test showed extremely high viral load, indicating CMV-related bone marrow suppression.
  • - She was treated with the antiviral drug valganciclovir, resulting in improved blood parameters, highlighting the importance of recognizing CMV infections in cases of anemia or low blood cell counts in infants for better outcomes.

  • Baricitinib is an approved medication for atopic dermatitis in Europe, but its oral delivery has side effects, prompting the study of a nanoemulgel formulation for topical use.
  • The developed baricitinib-loaded nanoemulsions had small average globule sizes and were transformed into nanoemulgels, which showed effective skin retention and permeation of the drug.
  • The study demonstrated that the nanoemulgel significantly reduced inflammatory markers and improved skin conditions like acanthosis and hyperkeratosis, suggesting its efficacy in treating atopic dermatitis.

Psychedelics have recently re-emerged as potential treatments for various psychiatric conditions that impose major public health costs and for which current treatment options have limited efficacy. At the same time, personalized medicine is increasingly being implemented in psychiatry to provide individualized drug dosing recommendations based on genetics. This review brings together these topics to explore the utility of pharmacogenomics (a key component of personalized medicine) in psychedelic-assisted therapies.

Objective: Currently available data regarding unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) in sickle cell disease (SCD) are largely based on adult patients; this has made it challenging to reach a consensus on treatment decisions and follow-up strategies for pediatric SCD patients with UIAs.

Methods: A retrospective review of 296 SCD patients (aged 18 years or younger) who underwent MRA from January 2008 to September 2022 was performed. The vessel of origin and characteristics of the UIAs, including maximum diameter, laterality, and number, were evaluated.

Objective: Knowledge of local antibiotic resistance data, provided by antibiograms (a cumulative summary of in vitro-antimicrobial-susceptibility-test results), can aid prescribing of appropriate empirical antibiotics. This study aimed to explore the feasibility of antibiogram development for residential aged care facilities (RACFs).

Design: Retrospective observational study of culture and sensitivity data.

Introduction: The pattern of diet intake is associated with food availability and the intake of nutrients from different food groups and is an important component of nutritional status. The dietary habits of individuals are integral to understanding their nutritional wellbeing, making this assessment crucial for public health interventions. The objective of the study was to assess the dietary intake pattern and nutritional status among women of reproductive age in slum areas of Pokhara Metropolitan.

Motivation: Quantification of microscopy time series of in vitro reconstituted motor-driven microtubule transport in "gliding assays" is typically performed using computational object tracking tools. However, these are limited to non-intersecting and rod-like filaments.

Results: Here, we describe a novel computational image-analysis pipeline, KnotResolver, to track image time series of highly curved self-intersecting looped filaments (knots) by resolving cross-overs.

Layered metal thio- and selenophosphates (MTPs) are a family of van der Waals gapped materials that exhibit a multitude of functionalities in terms of magnetic, ferroelectric, and optical properties. Despite the recent progress in terms of understanding the material properties of these compounds, the potential of MTPs as a material class yet needs further scrutiny, especially in terms of nonlinear optical properties. Recent reports of efficient low-order harmonic generation and extremely high third-order nonlinear optical properties in MTPs suggest the potential application of these materials in integrated nanophotonics.

Tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor, is a highly effective immunosuppressant used in solid organ transplantation (SOT). However, it is characterized by a narrow therapeutic range and high inter-patient variability in pharmacokinetics. Standard weight-based dosing followed by empiric dose titration is suboptimal in controlling drug concentrations, increasing risk of rejection or toxicity, particularly in the initial months post transplantation.

Background: The nucleus incertus (NI) was originally described by Streeter in 1903, as a midline region in the floor of the fourth ventricle of the human brain with an 'unknown' function. More than a century later, the neuroanatomy of the NI has been described in lower vertebrates, but not in humans. Therefore, we examined the neurochemical anatomy of the human NI using markers, including the neuropeptide, relaxin-3 (RLN3), and began to explore the distribution of the NI-related RLN3 innervation of the hippocampus.
