Blood pressure, calcium channel blockers, and the risk of prostate cancer: a Mendelian randomization study.

Background: Observational studies have found some evidence of an association between elevated blood pressure and prostate cancer risk; however, the results are inconclusive. We tested whether systolic blood pressure (SBP) influences prostate cancer risk and evaluated the effect of calcium channel blockers (CCB) on the disease using Mendelian randomization (MR) approach.

Methods: We used 278 genetic variants associated with SBP and 16 genetic variants in CCB genes as instrumental variables.

Introduction: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), caused by Orthohantaviruses, occupies one of the leading places among natural focal human diseases, for which there are no modern accurate and highly sensitive diagnostic methods. To improve this situation, a better understanding of the Hantavirus pathogenesis of HFRS is required. Determination of the expression level of exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) in the serum/plasma of patients makes them potential biomarkers for diagnosing and predicting HFRS.

Aim: Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are characterized by abnormal dilation and thinning of the cerebral vessels wall, leading to rupture and life-threatening aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) condition. This dictates the need to find new biomarkers that predict the presence of IAs and the risk of their rupture. The aim of this study was to measure circulating miR-126 at various time points post-aSAH to identify the timing of peak levels.

Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is an acute natural focal viral disease caused by viruses of the genus hantavirus, characterized by damage to small blood vessels, kidneys, lungs and other organs of a person. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are 18-22 nucleotide endogenously expressed RNA molecules that inhibit gene expression at the post-transcriptional level by binding to the 3-untranslated region of the target mRNA. It has been proven that miRNAs play a significant role in various biological processes, including the cell cycle, apoptosis, cell proliferation and differentiation.

They form an ecological variant of flora, as a historically-formed set of species growing on cultivated soils. For the rational use of the chemical and biological crop protection products and to produce safe and high-quality food, up-to-date data on the floristic diversity of weeds and the patterns of its geographical change are required.

We've conducted the analysis of both traditional and new methods of laboratory diagnosis to estimate the severity and damage of target organs during Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS). It was shown that thrombocytopenia corresponds to the severity of the disease and correlates with the severity of renal failure. The level of C-reactive protein reflects the activity of the inflammatory process and correlates with the characteristic laboratory criteria of the disease.

Advantages of Amplifluor-like SNP markers over KASP in plant genotyping.

Background: KASP (KBioscience Competitive Allele Specific PCR) and Amplifluor (Amplification with fluorescence) SNP markers are two prominent technologies based upon a shared identical Allele-specific PCR platform.

Methods: Amplifluor-like SNP and KASP analysis was carried out using published and own design of Universal probes (UPs) and Gene-specific primers (GSPs).

Results: Advantages of the Amplifluor-like system over KASP include the significantly lower costs and much greater flexibility in the adjustment and development of 'self-designed' dual fluorescently-labelled UPs and regular GSPs.

Previously Unidentified Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in HIV/AIDS Cases Associate with Clinical Parameters and Disease Progression.

The genetic background of an individual plays an important role in the progression of HIV infection to AIDS. Identifying previously unknown or uncharacterized single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that associate with disease progression may reveal important therapeutic targets and provide a greater understanding of disease pathogenesis. In the present study, we employed ultra-high multiplex PCR on an Ion Torrent next-generation sequencing platform to sequence 23 innate immune genes from 94 individuals with HIV/AIDS.

Background: The relevance of the problem of colorectal cancer (CRC) is evident because of extremely high morbidity and mortality rates, associated with this disease. CRC is mostly diagnosed only at very advanced stages. The reduction of mortality can be achieved by the popularization of screening-methods for early identification of CRC and adenomatous polyps of the colon, which are proved to be precancerous condition.

Gut-Associated Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells Display an Immature Phenotype and Upregulated Granzyme B in Subjects with HIV/AIDS.

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) in the periphery of subjects with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) decrease over time, and the fate of these cells has been the subject of ongoing investigation. Previous studies using animal models as well as studies with humans suggest that these cells may redistribute to the gut. Other studies using animal models propose that the periphery pDCs are depleted and gut is repopulated with naive pDCs from the bone marrow.

[Endotoxin Is a Companent in Pathogenesis of Chronic Viral Diseases].

The level of endotoxin and indicators of activity of antiendotoxin immunity (antibody concentration to glycolipid Re-chemotype and general antigen of enterobacteria) were estimated in serum of 174 patients with persistent viral infections (viruses: herpes simplex, hepatitis C, human immunodeficiency). The presence of markers of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (interleukin IL-1β) and acquired immunodeficiency (CD4+) in HIV-infected patients were also determined. Persistent viral infections are accompanied by endotoxin aggression intestinal origin (caused by them), which is able to induce the development of systemic inflammatory response syndrome.

[THE RISK OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL CHRONIC FLUORIDE POISONING].

On the basis of individual occupational fluoride loads (IOFN) it was established that under current levels of air pollution of the working area by fluorine compounds, occupational fluorosis can occur in mostly sensitive workers with 66 or more years of accumulated period of work, while the most vulnerable are workers with of 9.4 or more years of accumulated period of work. The results obtained in comparison of clinical data with individual fluoride load, testify that in the high-risk group for the development of occupational fluoride intoxication include workers with an average accumulated period of work of 10.

[Actual nutrition of patients suffered from hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome].

The aim of the article is to study actual ration of patients suffered from hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and its interaction with the development of arterial hypertension (AH). 296 men aged 20–59 suffered from HFRS were under the care of physician within the period of 1 to 6 years. Among this group 49 cases of arterial hypertension have been registered after HFRS.

[Quality of life in cryolite production workers depending on length of service].

Federal budgetary establishment of a science "the Ekaterinburg medical centre of science of preventive maintenance and health protection of workers industrial plants". Findings are that adaptation level and life quality parameters progressively decrease with longer length of service. The most unfavorable parameters are seen in cryolite production workers with length of service over 20 years and in age group of 45-55 years.

[Improper nutrition as a factor of parodontal inflammatory conditions at able-bodied age].

The study covered actual nutrition in able-bodied individuals having a diagnosed chronic generalized parodontitis. Findings are severe disorders in nutritional staus: severe element disbalance, vitamin insufficiency, fatty acids imbalance in nutrition, lower content of dietary fibers. The nutritional disorders in the examinees prove deep pathogenetic connection of parodontal diseases and internal disorders, associated with nutritional imbalance as well.

[Development and use of test-systems for molecular-genetic detection of out-of-hospital pneumonia agents].

Aim: Search of new targets and improvements of molecular-genetic detection methods of species specific DNA fragments of out-of-hospital pneumonia (OP) infection agents in sputum.

Materials And Methods: Species specific oligonucleotide primers to Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Branhamella catarrhalis were selected. 103 sputum samples from OP patients and 15 from practically healthy humans were test by using PCR and bacteriological method.

The results of the research of states of adaptation and health in workers of the aluminum industry are provided. Functional connection of the level of adaptability in respect of the parameter of adaptation (AP) with the length of employment has been revealed. The technologies of rehabilitative treatment under the conditions of the chronic fluoric intoxication have been presented.

[Influence of occupational activity on serum vitamin antioxidants content in patients after hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome].

Studies covered changes in serum vitamin antioxidant content in patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome male workers, in accordance with occupational activity type. Findings are that during the disease and convalescence period the drivers examined demonstrated reliably lower levels of vitamins A, E and beta-carotene vs. those in male office workers having no contact with occupational hazards.

The article covers results of life quality studies in patients with occupational respiratory diseases and in workers at risk of diseases due to dust. Findings are that occuupational respiratory diseases negatively influence physical and psycho-social status of the patients. The influence degree is connected to smoking intensity, the disease duration and bronchial obstruction grade.

Workers in electrolysis workshops of aluminium plants demonstrate changes in intracardial hemodynamics and left ventricle diastolic function, heart remodelling to concentric and excentric hypertrophy, more in individuals with chronic occupational fluorine intoxication.

[Prevention therapy of occupationally conditioned maladaptions in workers].

Medical examinations of workers with long length of service and subsequent biorhythmologic research revealed increased disorders in structure of temporal coordination of physiologic functions. Efficiency of suggested variants of correction therapy is supported by long working experience of sanatoriums and preventoriums.
