Genome-wide analysis of 67 ancient Near Eastern cattle, remains reveals regional variation that has since been obscured by admixture in modern populations. Comparisons of genomes of early domestic cattle to their aurochs progenitors identify diverse origins with separate introgressions of wild stock. A later region-wide Bronze Age shift indicates rapid and widespread introgression of zebu, from the Indus Valley.

Article Synopsis
  • Horse domestication had a profound impact on warfare, travel, trade, and language spread.* -
  • The study analyzed DNA from 149 ancient horses, revealing two distinct extinct lineages from Iberia and Siberia that didn't significantly contribute to modern horses.* -

In the title compound, C(16)H(13)NO(4), the indole system is essentially planar, whereas the dioxane ring adopts a twist conformation. The mol-ecules are linked into chains by -O- H⋯O=C- hydrogen bonds and these chains are linked into rods by means of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Exept for weak C-H⋯O inter-actions between the rods, no other inter-molecular contacts of inter-est are present.

It is noted that the chemical reactions occurring in rarefied cosmic clouds (molecular concentration less than or approximately to 10(2) cm-3) differ from similar laboratory reactions by the much greater effect on the outcome of external force fields. In this light it is hypothesized that the synthesis of optically active substances may occur in the outer space under the conjoint stereospecific effect of a magnetic and other molecule-orienting field. It is further conjectured that the optically active substances of the Solar System had been produced in the course of its formation out of the primal rarefield cloud.

At the request of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, a controlled field trial of a polyvaccine containing typhoid, paratyphoid and dysentery antigens and a purified tetanus toxoid was undertaken in 1958. The main object of this trial, which was carried out over a 10-month period simultaneously in four localities, was to determine the efficacy of the typhoid component of the polyvaccine. The study population comprised over 90 000 individuals of 16-60 years of age.
