Effect of a polyherbal Unani formulation on left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in hypertensive patients - a randomized single blind placebo controlled clinical trial.

Objectives: Diastolic dysfunction represents an important pathophysiological intermediate between hypertension and heart failure. In the last two decades, the prevalence of heart failure patients having normal or near normal ejection fraction (EF) has increased to around 60 %. It thus poses a great morbidity and mortality risk to the population.

Outcome of pediatric cataract surgery including color vision, stereopsis, and cognition in a tertiary eye care center in India.

Background: Pediatric cataract is an important cause of avoidable childhood blindness in India. Although there are studies on clinical features and visual acuity outcomes of pediatric cataract surgery, there are no studies that look into aspects of color vision, stereopsis, and cognitive functions in children with cataracts. Studying these parameters pre- and postsurgery will help us assess the overall components of visual function that are critical for the child's development.

Quantitative and comparative analysis of thermography parameters in posterior scleritis, choroiditis, and controls.

Purpose: To compare various ocular thermography parameters in posterior scleritis (PS), choroiditis (choroidal granuloma [CG], Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada [VKH] syndrome), central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), and healthy controls.

Methods: This retrospective, observational, comparative study evaluated cases undergoing ocular thermography between April 2017 and October 2023. The study groups included cases of PS, CG, and VKH, while the control group comprised CSCR cases and healthy individuals.

Prevalence of A2 and A2B Subgroups among Blood Groups A and AB in healthy donors.

Objective: To determine the frequency of A2 and A2B subgroups among blood groups A and AB in healthy donors.

Methods: It was a Cross-Sectional study, conducted at the Department of Hematology & Transfusion Medicine, UCHS, The Children's Hospital Lahore and Sundas foundation Lahore from June 2022 to December 2022 including 13,120 healthy blood donors of both genders, after taking informed consent. Venous blood samples of donors were collected in EDTA vials (3ml) and serum gel vial for routine blood grouping which was done by standard tube method.

Rising trend of Caesarean section in primigravida at Lady Aitchison Hospital Lahore: Phenomenological analysis of indications.

Objectives: To highlight the rising trend of caesarean section and strategies to reduce the caesarean section rate in an urban setting.

Methods: The qualitative, phenomenological study was conducted at the Lady Aitchison Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from October 16 to November 30, 2020, and comprised obstetrics and gynaecology practitioners principally responsible for making decisions related to caesarean sections. Data was collected through face-to-face detailed interview with each subject.

3D-QSAR, docking and molecular dynamics simulations of novel Pyrazolo-pyridazinone derivatives as covalent inhibitors of FGFR1: a scientific approach for possible anticancer agents.

Developing highly potent covalent inhibitors of Fibroblast growth factor receptors 1 (FGFR1) has always been a challenging task. In the current study, various computational techniques, such as 3D-QSAR, covalent docking, fingerprinting analysis, MD simulation followed by MMGB/PBSA, and per-residue energy decomposition analysis were used to explore the binding mechanism of pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyridazinone derivatives to FGFR1. The high q2 and r2 values for the CoMFA and CoMSIA models, suggest that the constructed 3D-QSAR models could reliably predict the bioactivities of FGFR1 inhibitors.

Choroidal lesions in varicella zoster virus uveitis.

Purpose: To evaluate choroidal lesions with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) scan in varicella zoster virus (VZV) uveitis.

Methods: VZV-uveitis cases which underwent OCT scan for choroidal lesions were studied. SD-OCT scan passing through these lesions was studied in detail.

Socioeconomic factors in childhood cataracts - A descriptive study from a tertiary eye care center in India.

Purpose: While there are a few studies that show the prevalence of blindness and ocular morbidity in children, studies on socioeconomic factors in childhood cataracts are scarce. We aimed to study the socioeconomic status, education and occupation of the parents, consanguinity, and gender inequality among children presenting with cataracts.

Methods: This was a hospital-based, prospective, descriptive study of 68 children with cataracts (aged 0-18 years).

Correlation Between Quantitative Anti-dsDNA Levels with Severity of Proteinuria in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients.

Objective: To evaluate the correlation of quantitative anti-dsDNA level with proteinuria levels in patients with lupus nephritis in a tertiary care hospital.

Study Design: In this prospective cross-sectional study, 76 patients of newly diagnosed SLE coming to Fatima Memorial Hospital were included in the study period between January 2020 to June 2020. Demographic data such as age, gender, lupus manifestations such as serositis, arthritis, mucocutaneous disease, and neuropsychiatric manifestations were recorded.

Ruptured retinoblastoma: management in a rare case scenario.

A preschool child presented with white reflex in left eye since 2 months. Examination under anaesthesia revealed left eye retinoblastoma group D as per international classification of retinoblastoma. In collaboration with medical oncologist, systemic chemotherapy was started.

Early MCI-to-AD Conversion Prediction Using Future Value Forecasting of Multimodal Features.

In Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression, it is imperative to identify the subjects with mild cognitive impairment before clinical symptoms of AD appear. This work proposes a technique for decision support in identifying subjects who will show transition from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the future. We used robust predictors from multivariate MRI-derived biomarkers and neuropsychological measures and tracked their longitudinal trajectories to predict signs of AD in the MCI population.

Choroidal Thickness in Multifocal Dendritic and Placoid Serpiginous-Like Choroiditis: A Comparative Study.

Background And Objective: To study spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) characteristics in multifocal advanced dendritic serpiginous-like choroiditis (D-SLC) and placoid serpiginous-like choroiditis (P-SLC).

A narrative study on work place based conflicts in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department.

Objective: To explore the patterns in research and underlying factors of conflicts in obstetrics and gynaecology and its effect on restricting the quality of education and training of residents.

Methods: The narrative study was conducted at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Lady Aitchison Hospital, King Edward Medical University, Lahore, Pakistan, from October 2018 to January 2019, and comprised narrative essays by residents associated with the department. Data was subjected to thematic analysis.

Minimally-invasive anterior maxillary distraction technique in patients with cleft lip and palate and maxillary deficiency: an evaluation of 106 patients.

Our aim was to evaluate the feasibility of a minimally-invasive surgical technique for anterior maxillary distraction osteogenesis to correct maxillary hypoplasia in patients with clefts. A modified Y distractor was placed intraorally in 106 patients with cleft- associated maxillary deficiency to facilitate protraction of the maxilla. Subsequently the patients had an anterior maxillary osteotomy through a minimally invasive incision, followed by activation of the appliance at the rate of 0.

Educational environment for residents in Obstetrics and Gynaecology working in teaching hospitals of Lahore, Pakistan: A cross-sectional study.

The objective of this study was to determine the educational environment of residents in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) working in the hospitals of Lahore, Pakistan. This cross-sectional study was conducted at OBG Department, King Edward Medical University. All the Post-graduate Residents (PGR's) of OBG working in Lahore, Pakistan were included in this study.

Retrospective analysis of a TMJ ankylosis protocol with a 9 year follow up.

Objective: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis (TMJa) is a debilitating condition that causes difficulty in mastication, speech and mouth opening. Its treatment poses surgical and rehabilitative challenges along with a high incidence of reankylosis. This study was designed to assess the long-term outcomes with a new two phase physiotherapy protocol following conservative resection of the ankylotic mass.

Clinical assessment of class II resin-based composites versus preformed metal crowns performed on primary molars in patients at high risk of caries.

Aim: To compare class II resin composite with preformed metal crowns (PMC) in the treatment of proximal dentinal caries in high caries-risk patients.

Methods: The charts (270) of paediatric patients with proximal caries of their primary molars were reviewed. Success or failure of a procedure was assessed using the dental notes.
