Awake prone positioning effectiveness in moderate to severe COVID-19 a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Awake prone positioning (APP) may be beneficial in patients with respiratory failure who are not receiving mechanical ventilation. Randomized controlled trials of APP have been performed during peak COVID-19 periods in unvaccinated populations, with limited data on compliance or patient acceptability. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of APP in a lower-middle income country in an open-label randomized controlled trial using a dedicated APP implementation team and wearable continuous-monitoring devices.

Using 320-slice computed tomography to preoperatively investigate the leg perforator arterial system and design a perforator flap for patients with a soft-tissue defect in the leg.

Purpose: To investigate the leg perforator arterial system, identify the perforator flap's pedicle artery and its projected cutaneous point using a 320-slice computed tomography (CT 320) scanner.

Methods: A total of 24 patients with leg soft-tissue defects unilaterally underwent 320-slice CT angiography scanning (CTA 320) with 47 legs. The used method enabled investigation of the perforator arteries originating from the tibial, peroneal arteries, perforator flap's pedicle artery and its projected cutaneous point.

Generalized lymphangiomatosis in patients treated for chylothorax following thoracoscopic sympathectomy: Case report.

Generalized lymphangiomatosis (GLA) is a very rare condition in adults, characterized by diffused proliferation of lymphatic vessels that requires differential diagnosis from other vascular disorders such as cavernous or capillary hemangioma. This is because of overlapping characteristics on histopathological examination. Therefore, imaging features such as CT and MRI are useful to evaluate morphological characteristics, location, and the extent of the spread as well as differential diagnosis with other pathologies.

Expression of SUMO and NF-κB genes in hepatitis B virus-associated hepatocellular carcinoma patients: An observational study.

Alterations in signaling pathways and modulation of cell metabolism are associated with the pathogenesis of cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins and NF-κB family play major roles in various cellular processes. The current study aims to determine the expression profile of SUMO and NF-κB genes in HCC tumors and investigate their association with the clinical outcome of HCC.

This study investigated the possible association of genetic polymorphisms and plasma levels of CR1 and CR2 with dengue disease.

Clinical association and diagnostic significance of miRNA-29a and miRNA-147b in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Micro RNAs (miRs) expression is involved in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study investigates the expression levels of plasma miR-29a, miR-146a, and miR-147b and their correlations with clinical parameters in patients with T2DM. 105 patients with T2DM who categorized either as newly diagnosed T2DM (n=52) or treated T2DM (n=53) and 93 healthy individuals were included in this study.

Estimated population size of the people who inject drugs in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam: A two survey capture-recapture study using respondent driven sampling.

To develop an appropriate programmatic response to the concentrated HIV epidemic, program managers require reliable estimates of the sizes of the key populations. This study attempts to estimate the population size of people who inject drugs (PWID) in Thai Nguyen-a province in the northern part of Vietnam. Two source capture-recapture population size estimates were calculated using data from two respondent driven sampling survey rounds conducted in 5 selected districts from May to August 2019.

Prognostic significance of the angiopoietin-2 for early prediction of septic shock in severe sepsis patients.

Aim: The current study investigated the plasma levels of angiopoietin-1/-2 and their association with clinical outcomes of sepsis.

Methods: Angiopoietin-1 and -2 levels were quantified in plasma from 105 patients with severe sepsis by ELISA.

Results: Angiopoietin-2 levels elevated according to the severity of sepsis progression.

Background: Dengue shock syndrome (DSS) is one of the major clinical phenotypes of severe dengue. It is defined by significant plasma leak, leading to intravascular volume depletion and eventually cardiovascular collapse. The compensatory reserve Index (CRI) is a new physiological parameter, derived from feature analysis of the pulse arterial waveform that tracks real-time changes in central volume.

DFT study on some polythiophenes containing benzo[]thiazole and benzo[]oxazole: structure and band gap.

The content of this paper focuses/shed light on the effects of X (X = S in P1 and X = O in P2) in CHNSX and R (R = H in P3, R = OCH in P4, and R = Cl in P5) in CHONS-R on structural features and band gaps of the polythiophenes containing benzo[]thiazole and benzo[]oxazole by the Density Function Theory (DFT) method/calculation. The structural features including the electronic structure lattice constant (a), shape, total energy (E) per cell, and link length (r), are measured via band gap (E) prediction with the package of country density (PDOS) and total country density (DOS) of material studio software. The results obtained showed that the link angle and the link length between atoms were not changed significantly while the E was decreased from E = - 1904 eV (in P1) to E = - 2548 eV (in P2) when replacing O with S; and the E of P3 was decreased from E = - 3348 eV (in P3) when replacing OCH, Cl on H of P3 corresponding to E = - 3575 eV (P4), - 4264 eV (P5).

CD34 protein is expressed in murine, canine, and porcine lungs.

The cell surface protein CD34 is expressed in various human tissues and cells, including hematopoietic stem cells, vascular endothelial cells, mucosal dendritic cells, mast cells, eosinophils, microglia, fibrocytes, muscle satellite cells, and platelets. There is a lack of data on the expression of CD34 in canine and porcine tissues. Therefore, we designed a series of immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence experiments to observe CD34 expression in murine, canine, and porcine lungs.

Adapting ENABLE for patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers in Singapore: a qualitative formative evaluation.

Background: ENABLE (Educate, Nurture, Advise, Before Life Ends) is a nurse coach-led, early palliative care model for patients with advanced cancer and their family caregivers. Content covered includes problem-solving, advance care planning, symptom management and self-care. The aim was to evaluate the cultural acceptability of ENABLE among patients with advanced cancer and their caregivers in Singapore and identify modifications for an adapted ENABLE-SG model.

Limb ischemia and bleeding in patients requiring venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Objective: Acute limb ischemia (ALI) and cannulation site bleeding are frequent complications of venoarterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and are associated with worse outcomes. The goals of this study were to assess our rates of ECMO-related ALI and bleeding and to evaluate the efficacy of strategies to prevent them, such as distal perfusion cannula (DPC) and ultrasound-guided cannulation.

Methods: This is a single-center retrospective cohort study of adult patients placed on peripheral VA-ECMO at a tertiary medical center between 2014 and 2018.

The Comorbidity-Polypharmacy Score is an Objective and Practical Predictor of Outcomes and Mortality after Vascular Surgery.

Background: The comorbidity-polypharmacy score (CPPS) was developed to quantify the severity of comorbidities of patients with geriatric trauma. CPPS is the sum of the number of medications and comorbidities, and is thus objective, user-friendly, and potentially adaptable to many clinical situations. We sought to understand if CPPS associates with outcomes and mortality after common vascular surgery procedures.

Predictors and Consequences of Loss to Follow-up after Vascular Surgery.

Background: Loss to follow-up (LTF) after surgery impacts quality of care and can adversely affect short- and long-term clinical outcomes. This study identifies modifiable factors contributing to LTF after vascular surgery and the factors' effect on short- and long-term clinical outcomes.

Methods: This is a retrospective single-center cohort study of 440 consecutive adult patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy, infrainguinal bypass, percutaneous lower extremity revascularization, or endovascular aortic aneurysm repair at Northwestern Memorial Hospital between November 2011 and November 2013.

The global nutrition transition has contributed to child obesity and dental caries in developing countries, including Vietnam. Few studies have described the nutrition and oral health of mothers and children. This a descriptive study of the nutrition and oral health characteristics of a convenience sample of 571 children aged 2 to 5 years and their mothers from 5 urban preschools in Central and South Vietnam.

Intravenous magnesium sulfate for the management of severe hand, foot, and mouth disease with autonomic nervous system dysregulation in Vietnamese children: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Over the last 15 years, hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) has emerged as a major public health burden across the Asia-Pacific region. A small proportion of HFMD patients, typically those infected with enterovirus 71 (EV71), develop brainstem encephalitis with autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation and may progress rapidly to cardiopulmonary failure and death. Although milrinone has been reported to control hypertension and support myocardial function in two small studies, in practice, a number of children still deteriorate despite this treatment.

Lovastatin for the Treatment of Adult Patients With Dengue: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial.

Background: Dengue endangers billions of people in the tropical world, yet no therapeutic is currently available. In part, the severe manifestations of dengue reflect inflammatory processes affecting the vascular endothelium. In addition to lipid lowering, statins have pleiotropic effects that improve endothelial function, and epidemiological studies suggest that outcomes from a range of acute inflammatory syndromes are improved in patients already on statin therapy.
