Cross-Sectional Analyses to Assess the Clinical Safety and Effectiveness of Bisoprolol in Patients With Non-obstructive Coronary Artery Disease Who Underwent Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Post-hoc Analysis.

Introduction: Elevated central aortic pressure, cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance contribute to high morbidity in relation to end organ dysfunction in obstructive and non-obstructive coronary artery disease (NOCAD) cases despite revascularization. Bisoprolol preempts further progression of left ventricular dysfunction in such cases due to anti-ischemic and anti-hypertensive effects, further extending its evaluation in local Indian settings.

Methods: Post-hoc analyses of NOCAD patients with epicardial stenosis (N=378, 30 to 70% stenosis) from cross-sectional analyses conducted across eighty centers in India.

Imaging Classification of Exophytic HCC and Our Experience with Microwave Ablation of Type 2 Lesions.

 The purpose of this article is to classify hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) based on imaging and to evaluate the role of ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) in the management of type 2 exophytic HCC.  A retrospective study was performed at our institution after approval by the Institutional Review Board. The study was undertaken from January 2017 to May 2022.

Increasing Adherence to Societal Recommendations in Radiology Reporting: A Feasibility Study Using Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound Guidelines for Incidentally Detected Gallbladder Polyps.

Incidental findings in diagnostic imaging are common, but follow-up recommendations often lack consistency. The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) issued guidelines in 2021 for managing incidentally detected gallbladder polyps, aiming to balance follow-up with avoiding overtreatment. There is variable adherence to these guidelines in radiology reports, however, which makes it difficult for the clinician to pursue appropriate follow-up for the patient.

CT pulmonary angiography in the inpatients: A 5-year retrospective view at the end of COVID-19 public health emergency.

To retrospectively evaluate the trends in utilization and results of computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA study) for detection of acute pulmonary embolism (PE) in the hospital inpatients during different phases of COVID-19 public health emergency. We conducted an Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved retrospective review of CTPA studies for our hospital inpatients in the years from 2019 to 2023, ranging from the prepandemic year (2019) to the year coinciding with the end of public health declarations (2023). Collected characteristics included patient age, patient sex, and result of the study.

FGFR2 in the Development and Progression of Cutaneous Squamous Cell Cancer.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is an increasingly common malignancy of the skin and the leading cause of death from skin cancer in adults over the age of 85. Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) has been identified as an important effector of signaling pathways that lead to the growth and development of cSCC. In recent years, there have been numerous studies evaluating the role FGFR2 plays in multiple cancers, its contribution to resistance to anticancer therapy, and new drugs that may be used to inhibit FGFR2.

Physiological and molecular insights into the alternate bearing in mango (Mangifera indica L.) using next-generation sequencing approaches.

India's mango productivity is hindered by many factors but more importantly due to limited understanding of the genomic complexities behind regular bearing habit. This study is the first to quantify carbohydrate fractions, protein content, and macro and micronutrient storage pools, their transportation, and contributions to regular 'Totapuri' and alternate bearer 'Bombay Green' mango varieties during the 'off' year. Deep RNA sequencing was used to assess gene expression dynamics between buds and flowers of these varieties.

Population PK modeling of certolizumab pegol in pregnant women with chronic inflammatory diseases.

Certolizumab pegol (CZP; CIMZIA™) is the only Fc-free tumor necrosis factor inhibitor with data from a clinical study demonstrating no to minimal placental transfer. The pharmacokinetics (PK) of certolizumab pegol during pregnancy and postpartum in women with chronic inflammatory diseases were assessed using a population PK model based on data from the CHERISH study (NCT04163016), a longitudinal, prospective, open-label PK phase IB study. Model development was performed in NONMEM using a frequentist prior approach, with prior information based on a population PK model for certolizumab pegol in non-pregnant adult patients (NCT04740814).

Longitudinal propagation of aquatic disturbances following the largest wildfire recorded in New Mexico, USA.

Wildfire disturbance propagation along fluvial networks remains poorly understood. We use incident, atmospheric, and water-quality data from the largest wildfire in New Mexico's history to quantify how this gigafire affected surface runoff processes and mobilized wildfire disturbances into fluvial networks after burning 1382 km. Surface runoff post-fire increased compared to pre-fire conditions, and precipitation events that are frequently observed in the affected watershed (<2-year recurrence) and fell during the post-fire first rainy season resulted in uncorrelated, less frequently observed runoff events (10-year recurrence).

Feasibility and Outcomes of a Cardiovascular Medicine Inclusive Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Service.

Background: There has been a significant increase in the utilization of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in recent years. Cardiothoracic surgery teams have historically led VA-ECMO care teams, with little data available on alternative care models.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of a cardiovascular medicine inclusive VA-ECMO service, analyzing patients treated with peripheral VA-ECMO at a large quaternary care center from 2018 to 2022.

Cost-effectiveness of Pembrolizumab in Combination with Chemotherapy as Neoadjuvant Treatment and Continued as a Single Agent Adjuvant Treatment for High-Risk Early-Stage Triple-Negative Breast Cancer in Hong Kong.

Introduction: The phase III randomized KEYNOTE-522 trial demonstrated that pembrolizumab in combination with chemotherapy as neoadjuvant treatment followed by adjuvant pembrolizumab (pembrolizumab + chemotherapy) provided significant improvements in event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) for patients with high-risk early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (eTNBC). The objective was to assess the cost-effectiveness of pembrolizumab + chemotherapy compared to neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone (chemotherapy) in patients with high-risk eTNBC from a Hong Kong third-party payer perspective.

Methods: A multistate transition model with four health states (event-free), locoregional recurrence, distant metastases, and death) was developed to assess the lifetime medical costs and health outcomes (3% annual discount), along with incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) using efficacy and safety data from the KEYNOTE-522 trial.

Li-Fraumeni Syndrome: Imaging Features and Guidelines.

Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is a rare autosomal dominant familial cancer syndrome caused by germline mutations of the tumor protein p53 gene which encodes the p53 transcription factor, also known as the "guardian of the genome." The most common types of cancer found in families with LFS include sarcomas, leukemia, breast malignancies, brain tumors, and adrenocortical cancers. Osteosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma are the most common sarcomas.

Metformin augments major cytoplasmic organization except for spindle organization in oocytes cultured under hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic conditions: An in vitro study.

The present study aimed to investigate the role of antidiabetic drug metformin on the cytoplasmic organization of oocytes. Germinal vesicle (GV) stage oocytes were collected from adult female Swiss albino mice and subjected to in vitro maturation (IVM) in various experimental groups- control, vehicle control (0.3% ethanol), metformin (50 μg/mL), high glucose and high lipid (HGHL, 10 mM glucose; 150 μM palmitic acid; 75 μM stearic acid and 200 μM oleic acid in ethanol), and HGHL supplemented with metformin.

High-entropy nanomaterials exhibit exceptional mechanical, physical, and chemical properties, finding applications in many industries. Peroxidases are metalloenzymes that accelerate the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. This study uses the high-entropy approach to generate multimetal oxide-based nanozymes with peroxidase-like activity and explores their application as sensors in bioassays.

Introduction: Pneumococcal diseases pose a significant public health concern in India, with substantial morbidity and mortality, with the elderly and those with coexisting medical conditions being most at risk. Pneumococcus was also seen to be one of the main reasons for co-infection, pneumonia and complications in COVID. Current guidelines recommend vaccination for specific adult populations, but there is a lack of uniformity and guidance on risk stratification, prioritisation and optimal timing.

Effectiveness of Autologous Skin Cell Suspension in Large Total Body Surface Area Burns: Analysis of Clinical Outcomes and Patient Charges.

Autologous skin cell suspension (ASCS) is an adjunct to conventional split-thickness skin grafts (STSG) for acute burns, enhancing healing and reducing donor site requirements. This study validates ASCS's predictive benefits in hospital stay reduction and cost savings by analyzing outcomes and real-world charges post-ASCS implementation at a single institution. A retrospective study (2018-2022) included burn patients with ≥10% TBSA.

Deciphering ovarian torsion: insights from CT imaging analysis.

Purpose: In the milieu of emergency medicine, pelvic and lower abdominal pain present recurrently, with ovarian torsion posing a formidable diagnostic quandary amid multifarious etiologies. Given the burgeoning reliance on CT in acute care settings, it invariably assumes primacy as the principal imaging modality. This study endeavors to elucidate the CT imaging manifestations encountered by surgically confirmed ovarian torsion patients and utilizing CT to differentiate necrosis.

The Role of Imaging for Gastrointestinal Bleeding: Consensus Recommendations From the American College of Gastroenterology and Society of Abdominal Radiology.

Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is the most common GI diagnosis leading to hospitalization within the United States. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of GI bleeding is critical to improving patient outcomes and reducing high healthcare utilization and costs. Radiologic techniques including computed tomography angiography, catheter angiography, computed tomography enterography, magnetic resonance enterography, nuclear medicine red blood cell scan, and technetium-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy (Meckel scan) are frequently used to evaluate patients with GI bleeding and are complementary to GI endoscopy.

Theoretical analysis of the buried heterostructure laser for stable dual-wavelength generation.

Stable dual-wavelength emission from a laser is desirable for microwave signal generation using the optical heterodyning method. As both optical wavelengths are generated from the same cavity, the phase noise of the generated microwave signal is minimized. In this work, we exploit the inherent birefringence in the buried heterostructure semiconductor laser to generate dual polarized modes.

Sphenopalatine ganglion block for the treatment of spontaneous intracranial hypotension without demonstrable cerebrospinal fluid leak: A report of two cases.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a condition characterized by orthostatic headache associated with nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, vertigo, hypoacusis, neck pain/stiffness, and photophobia. Usual treatment includes bed rest, hydration, caffeine, analgesics, epidural blood patch, steroids, fibrin glue (N-butyl-cyanoacrylate), and surgical repair. In this series, we report two cases, who presented to us with features of SIH and were managed successfully with sphenopalatine ganglion block.
