3.2-fold increase of resorption of plutonium-239 administered as a 239Pu complex with tributyl phosphate (TBP) in hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) was observed during the first 4 days in an experiment on 120 Wistar rats, as compared to the resorption level during the administration of 239Pu alone, greater accumulation in the organs of secondary deposition, followed by disappearance of differences, but for the kidneys, where the differences were observed until the end of the experiment. These features did not lead to an increase of absorbed radiation doses in the critical organs by the end of the study.

Tributyl phosphate (TBP) enhances 238Pu penetration at all stages of its transport in the organism, significantly influences the rates and levels of its cumulation and elimination, the duration of its deposition in organs and tissues. The detected differences indicate the necessity to take them into account in the assessment of danger of exposure to 238Pu in combination with TBP.

The experiments on Wistar rats were undertaken to analyze metabolism of 253Pu in combination with tributylphosphate and organic solvents of trichlorobenzene and H-paraffin entering the organism through stab-wounds. It was shown that the combination of tributylphosphate with the above substances increased the levels of plutonium accumulation at the early stage of investigation twice as much.

Tributyl phosphate intratracheally administered to rat body with a Pu(IV)-TBP complex does not increase the accumulation of plutonium in the skeleton and liver. Plutonium is excreted from the lungs more readily than Pu(IV) nitrate and its large amounts are resorbed in the blood early after the administration; its excretion in feces is approximately 100 times more intense than in urine.
