Non-Respiratory Droplet Transmission of COVID-19 in the Isolation Ward of a Secondary Hospital in Oman: A Return to Isolation Basics.

Unlabelled: Front-line health care workers are among the most vulnerable groups at risk for acquiring COVID-19, yet the exact mechanisms of how infections occur in health care settings are yet to be identified.

Objectives: To review the epidemiologic and environmental factors surrounding a cluster of nosocomially acquired COVID-19 cases with possible non respiratory droplet transmission indicating the importance of strict adherence with isolation procedures for patients and staff.

Methods: Contact and environmental investigations were completed to determine the source and possible routes of hospital transmission of COVID-19.

Epidemiological profile and surveillance activity of tuberculosis in South Batinah, Oman, 2017 and 2018.

Background: Understanding the current surveillance activity and the challenges is important to ensure a continuous success toward the elimination goal for tuberculosis (TB). South Batinah Governorate (SBG) ranked the fourth on the top reporting governorates in the period 2010-2016 in Oman. The objective of this study is to describe the epidemiological profile and activities of the surveillance program of TB in the SBG in the years 2017 and 2018.

Two cases of cholera O1 in South Batinah, Oman, April 2019: lessons learned.

Cholera represents an ongoing threat to many low-income and middle-income countries, but some cases of cholera even occur in high-income countries. Therefore, to prevent or combat cholera outbreaks, it is necessary to maintain the capacity to rapidly detect cholera cases, implement infection control measures, and improve general hygiene in terms of the environment, water, and food. The 2 cases, 1 imported and 1 secondary, described herein are broadly indicative of areas that require improvement.

Endometriosis of the appendix.

Endometriosis is a well known cause of infertility. Endometriosis of the appendix is a very rare condition. To highlight this rare entity, we are reporting a case of a young lady who was admitted with recurrent attacks of lower abdominal pain associated with primary infertility.

Irreversible papillitis and ophthalmoparesis as a presenting manifestation of neurobrucellosis.

A 35-year-old man presented with a meningeal syndrome and acute onset of visual blurring. Clinical investigations revealed bacterial meningitis with bilateral papillitis and ophthalmoparesis. Serum and cerebrospinal fluid serology confirmed the diagnosis of chronic active neurobrucellosis.

Neurogenic stunned myocardium NSM is a well-known complication of subarachnoidal hemorrhage, but has been reported rarely in association with other central nervous system disorders. A case of NSM is described in a patient with hemorrhagic brain contusion associated with cerebral edema. An 18-year-old man was admitted with severe cranial trauma following a car roll-over.

Schwannoma of the vestibulocochlear nerve presenting as isolated paroxysmal vertigo.

We report a patient with a schwannoma of the eighth cranial (vestibulocochlear) nerve who presented with isolated episodes of paroxysmal vertigo and positive Dix-Hallpike maneuver, and without the common features of hearing loss, disequilibrium and tinnitus. There are no previous reports of paroxysmal episodes of vertigo as the sole manifestation of schwannoma of the vestibulocochlear nerve. Hence, recurrent paroxysmal vertigo should therefore prompt the physician to rule out schwannoma of the vestibulocochlear nerve as a potential cause even in the presence of normal hearing tests.

"Man-in-the-barrel" syndrome as delayed manifestation of extrapontine and central pontine myelinolysis: beneficial effect of intravenous immunoglobulin.

"Man-in-the-barrel" syndrome has been rarely described following osmotic myelinolysis. We report a case of a 45-year-old woman admitted with septicemia and severe hyponatremia. She presented with a "man-in-the-barrel" syndrome which developed more than 10 days after rapid correction of the hyponatremia.
