Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a highly lethal cancer with a poor prognosis, is expected to become the second deadliest cancer in the United States by 2030. Despite advancements in treatment modalities, the survival rates of patients with PDAC have remained low. Immunotherapy has emerged as a promising treatment for various cancers; however, its utilization in PDAC has been limited due to various challenges, including resistance mechanisms and the advanced stage at which most patients are diagnosed.

The area deprivation index (ADI) has been used to understand how neighborhood disadvantages affect healthcare outcomes. Prior research has indicated that a higher ADI, reflective of a greater neighborhood disadvantage, is associated with an increased risk of major complications and unplanned readmission following PDAC resection.

Introduction: Indicators, such as mortality and complications, are commonly used to measure the quality of care. However, a more comprehensive assessment of surgical quality is captured using composite outcome measures such as Textbook Outcome (TO), Optimal Pancreatic Surgery, and a newer 'Ideal Outcome' (IO) measure. We reviewed our institutional experience to assess the impact of demographics, comorbidities, and operative variables on IO after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD).

If surgical intervention is warranted, craniotomy (CO) and decompressive craniectomy (DC) are employed, largely based on a loosely defined criteria and the neurosurgeon's best judgment. The primacy of one approach over another is a matter of dispute.

Cost of platelet screening is a major challenge for low middle income countries (LMICs). In this study, we evaluated the frequency of bacterial contamination in the platelet units (PUs) and the outcome of transfusing such platelets to the patients in a single institute at Pakistan.

The Modified 5-Item Frailty Index (mFI-5) is a novel risk stratification tool proposed to predict postoperative morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to validate the mFI-5 for predicting surgical outcomes in patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) for PDAC.

Traditionally performed as open surgery, the advent of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) including laparoscopic and robotic techniques, offers a potential alternative. This study assessed the use and outcomes of MIS and open PD for PDAC treatment.

Our study aimed to predict which patients would complete pre- or postoperative chemotherapy through machine learning (ML).
Methods: Patients with resectable PC identified in our institutional pancreas database were grouped into two categories: those who completed all intended treatments (i.
Background: The detection of a stenotic celiac artery (CA) typically mandates intraoperative revascularization during pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) to preserve liver perfusion. The impact of CA stenosis on postoperative outcomes is unclear. This study evaluates whether CA stenosis (CAS) is associated with increased postoperative complications.

We aimed to develop and validate a noninvasive algorithm for the prediction of varices in patients with unresectable HCC.
Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study in 21 centers in the United States including adult patients with unresectable HCC and Child-Pugh A5-B7 cirrhosis diagnosed between 2007 and 2019.
Background: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is a major surgical procedure associated with significant risks, particularly postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). Studies have highlighted the importance of certain risk factors for POPF, which are crucial for surgical decision-making and the management of high-risk patients undergoing PD. This study aimed to assess the surgical outcomes of patients undergoing PD who met the International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery - Class D (ISGPS-D) criteria.

However, there are limited data on the performance of this assay in a genotype 3 (GT3) predominant country like Pakistan. We conducted a study to evaluate the diagnostic performance of HCVcAg against the HCV polymerase chain reaction (PCR) molecular test.

The objective of this study was to assess the recurrence of PSE in cirrhotic patients after index episode of PSE and to identify various risk factors associated with it.
Methods: A retrospective, single-centre study was conducted at Aga Khan University Hospital over a span of one year.
Introduction And Importance: Epithelioid hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML) is a rare benign tumor predominantly found in women. Its occurrence during pregnancy is extremely rare. Accurate diagnosis of HAML is challenging due to its radiological resemblance to other hepatic neoplasms.

Its clinical presentation is nonspecific, and the diagnosis is mainly based on histology which shows nests of spindle and epithelioid cells along with a desmoplastic myofibroblastic stroma containing variable calcification and ossification. In this report, we present a case of a 24-year-old woman with a history of abdominal pain, distension, and dyspepsia.

This single-center study aimed to investigate the demographics, comorbidities, symptoms, and disease severity of COVID-19 patients in Pakistan.
Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center from April 2020 to August 2020.
The impact of environmental factors on epigenetic changes is well established, and cellular function is determined not only by the genome but also by interacting partners such as metabolites. Given the significant impact of metabolism on disease progression, exploring the interaction between the metabolome and epigenome may offer new insights into Huntington's disease (HD) diagnosis and treatment. Using fourteen post-mortem HD cases and fourteen control subjects, we performed metabolomic profiling of human postmortem brain tissue (striatum and frontal lobe), and we performed DNA methylome profiling using the same frontal lobe tissue.

Although postoperative outcomes are similar to deceased donor liver transplants, there is still an element of risk to the donor. The Clavien-Dindo classification system has been used to standardize reporting across different institutions and surgeons to categorize surgical outcomes.

Understanding vascular and biliary anatomy and their variants is crucial for successful and safe graft harvesting. Anatomic variations are common, particularly in the right hepatic lobe.

Objective: Understanding the epidemiology of upper gastrointestinal cancers in Pakistan may help in identifying important demographic risk factors for upper gastrointestinal malignancies in a particular rural population group. This will benefit in implementing tailored prevention approaches as well as effective management of health services.

Dampened immunity and impaired wound healing in diabetic patients may lead to diabetic foot ulcer disease, which is the leading cause of limb amputations and hospitalization. On the other hand, cancer is the most significant cause of mortality globally, accounting for over 10 million fatalities in 2020, or nearly one in every six deaths. Plants and herbs have been used to treat chronic diseases due to their essential pharmaceutical attributes, such as mitigating drug resistance, ameliorating systemic toxicities, reducing the need for synthetic chemotherapeutic agents, and strengthening the immune system.
