Background: A considerable number of cancer patients are diagnosed following presentation at emergency department with symptoms related to their condition, yet research in this area remains scarce. This study aimed to identify the clinical characteristics and evaluate the health outcomes of patients who presented to the emergency department with symptoms of cancer.
Materials And Methods: We analyzed data for patients diagnosed with cancer postemergency department presentation at a tertiary care hospital between 2015 to 2021.
Background Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF) constitutes a major reason for hospital admissions and significantly contributes to increased morbidity and mortality. Limited research indicates that lung ultrasound (LUS) may enhance the care for patients with ADHF. Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of LUS-guided diuretic therapy on reducing length of hospital stay (LOS) and 90-day readmissions among patients with ADHF.

The primary aim of this study is to examine the effects of telling their life stories and creating a life-story book intervention on QoL, depressive symptoms, and life satisfaction in a group of older adults in Oman.
Methods: A repeated-measures randomized controlled design was conducted in Oman.
Background: Delirium is highly prevalent among elderly hospitalized patients in various healthcare settings. This study aimed to assess the impact of delirium on short- and long-term health outcomes.
Methods: A prospective cohort included medically ill patients (≥65 years) admitted to a tertiary healthcare facility.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the incidence of inappropriate hospital stay and to identify the reasons behind inappropriate hospitalisation.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients admitted in the General Internal Medicine Unit, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman, from January to June 2020. The average length of hospital stay for all included patients was calculated.
Background: Delirium is a common neuropsychiatric syndrome in hospitalized elderly patients and is associated with poor clinical outcomes. We aimed to determine the prevalence, recognition, risk factors, and course of delirium among hospitalized elderly (65 years of age or older) patients at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH).
Methods: A prospective cohort study included 327 elderly patients (65 years of age or older) admitted to the medical wards at SQUH.
Introduction: Hughes-Stovin syndrome (HSS) is a systemic vasculitis characterized by widespread venous/arterial thrombosis and pulmonary artery aneurysms (PAAs), which is associated with serious morbidity and mortality. All fatalities reported in HSS resulted from unpredictable fatal suffocating hemoptysis. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize pulmonary complications at an early stage of the disease.

The HSS International Study Group is a multidisciplinary taskforce aiming to study HSS, in order to generate consensus recommendations regarding diagnosis and treatment.
Methods: We included 57 published cases of HSS (43 males) and collected data regarding: clinical presentation, associated complications, hemoptysis severity, laboratory and computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) findings, treatment modalities and cause of death.
Hughes-Stovin syndrome is a very rare clinical entity characterized by pulmonary artery aneurysms and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Here we report the case of a 53-year-old man, admitted to Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Muscat, Oman, with bilateral pulmonary artery aneurysms and lower-limb DVT who developed massive hemoptysis. He was managed successfully with high-dose steroids in combination with cyclophosphamide.

Chest computed tomography exhibited nodularity; lung biopsy revealed multinucleated giant cells, Cowdry A inclusions, VZV antigen, and DNA. Varicella zoster virus central nervous system disease was verified by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) anti-VZV IgG antibody with reduced serum/CSF ratios.

We report here a patient with leptospirosis and severe pulmonary involvement who was treated with meropenem (1 g every 8 hours), moxifloxacin (400 mg once daily), and high doses of corticosteroids. Systemic steroids were continued for 3 months because of persistent pulmonary lesions.

Methods: Physicians in the adult pulmonary clinics of a tertiary hospital in Oman first documented their subjective judgment of asthma control on 157 consecutive patients.
