Twenty-four patients were enrolled in the present study with 40 vascular anastomoses including 16 aortic and 24 femoral. Internal jugular phlebectasia is a rare entity in which there is a fusiform dilatation of the internal jugular vein (IJV), usually presenting as a neck mass or tinnitus. The jugular bulb (JB) is an enlarged confluence connecting the sigmoid sinus and the IJV. It has been suggested that JB abnormality might also cause vertigo and pulsatile tinnitus.

Background: The aim of this study is to define an algorithm for the choice of reconstructive method for defects after laryngo-pharyngo-esophagectomy for hypopharyngeal carcinoma.

Methods: One hundred and forty two cases of hypopharyngeal carcinoma were included and operated on by either partial pharyngectomy, total pharyngectomy or esophagectomy. The reconstructive method was tailored according to the resected segment.
