Background: Pulse pressure variation (PPV) is limited in low tidal volume mechanical ventilation. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate whether passive leg raising (PLR)-induced changes in PPV can reliably predict preload/fluid responsiveness in mechanically ventilated patients with low tidal volume in the intensive care unit.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were screened for diagnostic research relevant to the predictability of PPV change after PLR in low-tidal volume mechanically ventilated patients.

Zinc metal-organic frameworks have emerged as promising candidates, demonstrating excellent biological properties stemming from the unique characteristics of MOFs and zinc. In this study, we employed a facile method to synthesize a zinc metal-organic framework [Zn(IP)(HO)] using ultrasound irradiation, with the linker being isophthalic acid (IPA) (1,3-benzene dicarboxylic acid). The parent Zn-MOF and two Ag/Zn-MOF samples prepared via loading and encapsulation methods were comprehensively characterized using various techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, N adsorption-desorption isotherm, UV-vis spectroscopy and TGA.

As the incidence and survival rates of patients with cancer continues to grow, an increasing number of people are living with comorbidities, which often manifests as cancer-induced bone pain (CIBP). The majority of patients with CIBP report poor pain control from currently available analgesics. A conotoxin, Contulakin-G (CGX), has been demonstrated to be an antinociceptive agent in postsurgical and neuropathic pain states via a neurotensin receptor 2 (NTSR2)-mediated pathway.

Introduction And Hypothesis: It is reported that up to 60% of women would prefer to spare their uterus during pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair surgery. A reliable hysteropexy technique is therefore crucial. We aimed to describe the safety profile and initial core patient-reported and clinical outcomes of the Pilsner modification of laparoscopic mesh sacrohysterocolpopexy (PiMMS) in comparison with the laparoscopic sacrohysterocolpopexy technique (standard laparoscopic sacrohysterocolpopexy [sLSH]) previously used in our unit.

Background: Randomized trials in obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) have largely shown no prognostic benefit from coronary revascularization. Although there are several potential reasons for the lack of benefit, an underexplored possible reason is the presence of coincidental nonischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM). We investigated the prevalence and prognostic significance of NICM in patients with CAD (CAD-NICM).

Background: We recently demonstrated that patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) have an increased risk of left atrial (LA) thrombus. In this study, we aimed to evaluate thrombus management, thrombus persistence, and thromboembolic events for HCM and non-HCM patients with AF and LA thrombus.

Methods: From a cohort of 2,155 AF patients undergoing transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) for any indication, this study included 122 patients with LA thrombus (64 HCM patients and 58 non-HCM controls).

Article Synopsis
  • In patients with sarcoidosis and suspected cardiac involvement, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) highlights those at risk for adverse outcomes, albeit only affecting a minority of patients.
  • The objective of the study was to evaluate if different CMR phenotypes, based on left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and LGE presence, correlate with negative health outcomes over time.
  • Conducted on 504 patients from 2004 to 2020, the study found four distinct CMR phenotypes, indicating a need for tailored treatment approaches in affected patients.

Background: Abdominal and laparoscopic sacro-colpopexy (LSC) is considered the standard surgical option for the management of a symptomatic apical pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Women who have their uterus, and for whom an LSC is indicated, can have a laparoscopic sacro-hysteropexy (LSH), a laparoscopic supra-cervical hysterectomy and laparoscopic sacro-cervicopexy (LSCH + LSC) or a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic sacro-colpopexy (TLH + LSC). The main aim of this study was to compare clinical and patient reported outcomes of uterine sparing versus concomitant hysterectomy LSC procedures.
