Isokinetic Strength and Balance Analyses for Predicting Return to Sports After the Latarjet Procedure: A Prospective Cross-sectional Study.

Background: Isokinetic torque in shoulder internal rotation (IR) and external rotation (ER) can be considered as potential indicators for dynamic stability of the glenohumeral joint.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of 4-month isokinetic testing in predicting the 6-month return-to-sports (RTS) status after Latarjet surgery, explore its correlations with testing parameters, and identify optimal thresholds to ensure a safe RTS.

The Cobra sign: A marker for overestimation of tendon retraction in proximal semimembranosus tendon avulsion.

Purpose: To introduce a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sign, termed the Cobra sign, and identify its diagnostic metrics. The secondary aim was to demonstrate that this sign can be a source of false evaluation of tendon retraction in patients with proximal hamstring avulsion injury.

Method: This retrospective cohort study targeted patients surgically treated for proximal hamstring avulsion injury from January 2019 to June 2023.

This may lead to vaso-occlusive crises that may affect any organ. Acute pancreatitis (AP) in SCD patients may be mimicked by a vaso-occlusive crisis in the abdomen.

Urethral Mobilisation and Glanuloplasty Technique for Primary and Second-Stage Repair of Hypospadias: A Single Hospital Experience.

Background Over the years, the technique used to correct hypospadias has undergone several modifications to improve outcomes and reduce complication rates. In this study, a modification has been made to the second stage of the two-stage repair of proximal hypospadias. This modification utilises urethral mobilisation and glanuloplasty, traditionally used to repair distal hypospadias, in the second stage of repair of proximal hypospadias.

Return to Sports and Activities after Arthroscopic Treatments for Rotator Cuff Lesions in Young Patients Less Than 45-Years-Old: A Systematic Review.

To evaluate the outcomes of arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tear (RCT) in individuals under 45 years, focusing on their ability to return to sports (RTS) and work, along with different patient-reported outcomes (PROMs). Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, this systematic review encompassed articles that studied the outcomes of arthroscopic treatment of RCT in the young population (those under 45 years old). The literature search was conducted in PubMed/Medline and EMBASE until 21 May 2024.

Evaluating intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) in focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) resection surgery: A systematic review.

Background: Surgery is the best approach to treating focal cortical dysplasia (FCD)-related epilepsy; yet, it has suboptimal outcomes because distinguishing the boundaries between the FCD region and normal brain tissue intraoperatively poses a challenge. The use of intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) helps demarcate FCD lesion borders leading to more accurate intraoperative resection. In this review, the use of IOUS for the resection of FCD was evaluated.

Predictors of Early Return to Sport After Surgical Repair of Proximal Hamstring Complex Injuries in Professional Athletes: A Prospective Study.

Background: Proximal hamstring complex injury (PHCI) is a common injury among professional athletes, particularly those participating in pivot contact sports. Previous studies have suggested that surgery can be effective in restoring function and allowing athletes to return to sport (RTS), but the factors influencing successful RTS have been less clear.

Purpose: To assess RTS capabilities after surgical treatment of PHCI in professional athletes and to identify favorable predictors of RTS.

The main aim of this study was to determine the level of evidence in the literature for the main indications of osteopathy as recommended by the French osteopathy societies. This systematic review followed the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and evaluated articles published between January 2012 and January 2022 with one modification: when level one evidence studies were available, level two to five studies were excluded. Sources included PubMed, the Cochrane library, the French National Health Authority (HAS) and its affiliates.

Background: Hormonal alterations and lowered immunity during pregnancy aggravated by poor oral hygiene increase the risk of pregnant women of developing oral diseases. We conducted this cross-sectional study to examine the role of oral and prenatal health providers in promoting dental care for pregnant women attending primary healthcare centers (PHCs) in Saudi Arabia.

Methods: An online questionnaire was sent to a random sample of women who attended PHCs in Jeddah, during 2018-2019.

Benefits of switching from intravenous to subcutaneous daratumumab: Perspectives from UK healthcare providers.

Daratumumab is a CD38-directed monoclonal antibody indicated to treat multiple myeloma (MM). Daratumumab was initially administered intravenously (IV), subsequently a subcutaneous (SC) formulation was developed to increase convenience of administration. The UK was an early adopter of SC daratumumab and, as such, this report provides consensus recommendations from a group of UK MM experts, with the aim of facilitating the transition from IV to SC daratumumab for other European healthcare providers.

Background: There is an ongoing pursuit to decrease complications of hypospadias surgery. We studied a modification to the double onlay preputial island flap, whereby an additional tunica vaginalis layer was used.

Aims: We aim to study the efficacy, complication rates and outcomes of the modified double onlay urethroplasty technique.

Masked Primary Hyperparathyroidism by Empagliflozin Use.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors are drugs that regulate blood sugar by decreasing glucose reabsorption from the proximal renal tubules. Primary hyperparathyroidism masked by empagliflozin is very rare and only a few cases are reported in the literature. We report a case of a 57-year-old man with a known history of diabetes on empagliflozin for two years who presented with hypercalcemia and equivocal parathyroid hormone level.

[Endoscopic vacuum-assisted treatment of a large supralevator abscess].

Supralevatory abscesses (SA) are rare entities complicating diagnosis and treatment. We present the case report of a 64-year-old male with a large SA and a low transsphincteric fistula requiring surgery. Due to comorbidities and the size of the SA an endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVC) was placed for adequate drainage with good results at the six weeks follow-up.

Dopamine in Idiopathic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia/Ventricular Fibrillation.

The role of medical therapy in the treatment of idiopathic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (IPMVT) and idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF) is not well established. Current medications in use include amiodarone, lidocaine, isoproterenol, verapamil, and quinidine. However, the use of dopamine for controlling such arrhythmias has never been described.
