Political economy analysis of sub-national health sector planning and budgeting: A case study of three counties in Kenya.

Devolution represented a concerted attempt to bring decision making closer to service delivery in Kenya, including within the health sector. This transformation created county governments with independent executive (responsible for implementing) and legislative (responsible for agenda-setting) arms. These new arrangements have undergone several growing pains that complicate management practices, such as planning and budgeting.

Broad detection and quick differentiation of bovine viral diarrhea viruses 1 and 2 by a reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification test.

For broad detection of pestivirus A (bovine viral diarrhea virus 1: BVDV1) and pestivirus B (BVDV2) by a reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) test, the P25 primer set was designed using nucleotide sequences of 5'-UTR region of 1454 BVDVs. The base coverage of each primer against diverse BVDVs were more than 99% in each base position. The one step LAMP test with the P25 primer set could detect both BVDV1 (TK) and BVDV2 (KZ), but did not amplify 5 other bovine viruses.

Association Between Maternal Education and Childhood Mortalities in Myanmar.

Maternal education is widely regarded as a core social determinant of child mortality in low-income countries. In Myanmar, the evidence related to context-specific social determinants of health including maternal education is scarce, limiting grounds to advocate for a comprehensive health policy. Employing multivariate methods, the study analyzed the 2015-2016 Demographic Health Survey data exploring independent effect of maternal education on neonatal, infant, and under-5 mortality.

Molecular Characterization of Transgenic Events Using Next Generation Sequencing Approach.

Demand for the commercial use of genetically modified (GM) crops has been increasing in light of the projected growth of world population to nine billion by 2050. A prerequisite of paramount importance for regulatory submissions is the rigorous safety assessment of GM crops. One of the components of safety assessment is molecular characterization at DNA level which helps to determine the copy number, integrity and stability of a transgene; characterize the integration site within a host genome; and confirm the absence of vector DNA.
