Synthesis, molecular docking, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and ulcerogenic evaluation of thiophene-pyrazole candidates as COX, 5-LOX, and TNF-α inhibitors.

The thiophene bearing pyrazole derivatives (7a-j) were synthesized and examined for their in vitro cyclooxygenase, 5-lipoxygenase, and tumour inducing factor-α inhibitory activities followed by the in vivo analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and ulcerogenic evaluations. The synthesized series (7a-j) were characterized using H NMR, C NMR, FT-IR, and mass spectral analysis. Initially, the compounds (7a-j) were evaluated for their in vitro cyclooxygenase, 5-lipoxygenase, and tumour inducing factor-α inhibitory activities and the compound (7f) with two phenyl substituents in the pyrazole ring and chloro substituent in the thiophene ring and the compound (7g) with two phenyl substituents in the pyrazole ring and bromo substituent in the thiophene ring were observed as potent compounds among the series.

On the systematics of Phlebotomus betisi and two new related species from Laos with proposal of the new subgenus Lewisius.

Phlebotomus betisi was described from Malaysia and classified after its description in the subgenus Larroussius. It was the only species to have a pharyngeal armature composed of dot-like teeth and an annealed spermatheca whose head is carried by a neck in females. Males were characterized by having a style bearing five spines and a simple paramere.

COVID-19 in Malaysia has significantly affected the higher education system of the country and increased the level of distress among university students. Empirical evidence proposed that environment quality is associated with university students' life satisfaction during COVID-19. It was found that hope and optimism are linked with greater life satisfaction in general.

Cost-effectiveness of integrated pest management compared with insecticidal spraying against the German cockroach in apartment buildings.

This study assessed the cost and effectiveness of an integrated pest management (IPM) program using hydramethylnon gel baits compared with conventional spraying for controlling the German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.) (Blattodea: Blattellidae), in two residential buildings in Yasuj, Iran. The IPM approach was based on educational programs using pamphlets, posters and lectures, sanitation using vacuuming and application of hydramethylnon gel baits.

Efficacy of commercial household insecticide aerosol sprays against Aedes aegypti (Linn.) under simulated field conditions.

A simulated field study on the efficacy of commercial household aerosol insecticides was conducted. The bioefficacy of three pyrethroid aerosols, designated as PA1, PA2 and PA3, was tested in cabins furnished to simulate bedroom conditions. Each aerosol product was tested against lab-bred Aedes aegypti mosquitoes based on the insecticide manufacturers' recommended dosages.

First description of the male of Phlebotomus betisi Lewis and Wharton, 1963 (Diptera: Psychodidae).

The male of Phlebotomus (Larroussius) betisi is described from Malayan caves. Several males have been caught in association with P. betisi females.

Microalgae associated with Leptoconops breeding sites in selected sandy beaches of Malaysia.

A study was carried out to investigate correlation between presence of specific microalgal species and Leptoconops biting midge larvae in its breeding habitats. Sand samples containing microalgae were collected from the beach where the midges were most commonly biting and from sand beaches which are potential as breeding habitats of Leptoconops. The survey covered sand beaches from 12 seperate islands.

Preliminary field evaluation of the combined adulticidal, larvicidal, and wall residual activity of ULV-applied bifenthrin against mosquitoes.

The combined adulticidal, larvicidal, and wall residual activity of ULV-applied bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid, was evaluated in houses in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, against larvae and adults of lab-bred Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus. A portable ULV sprayer was used to disperse a ULV formulation of bifenthrin at a discharge rate of 45 ml/min. The results indicated that bifenthrin sprayed at this rate exhibited all the three activities against the test mosquitoes.
