Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on addressing high-sulfate wastewater challenges during flue gas desulfurization and denitrification processes, specifically targeting nitrogen removal.
  • Halophilic activated sludge was used in a Sequencing Batch Reactor, achieving over 96.7% nitrogen removal from wastewater with a sulfate concentration of 60 g/L.
  • It identifies key nitrogen metabolic processes and dominant bacteria involved in efficient nitrogen removal, emphasizing the importance of ectoine content in enhancing salt tolerance of the activated sludge.

Introduction: Uganda has a high demand for neurosurgical and neurological care. 78% of the over 50 million population reside in rural and remote communities where access to neurosurgical and neurological services is lacking. This study aimed to determine the feasibility, appropriateness, and usability of mobile neuro clinics (MNCs) in providing neurological care to rural and remote Ugandan populations.

In contrast to nitrification-denitrification microorganisms that convert ammonia nitrogen in hypersaline wastewater into nitrogen for discharge, this research utilizes sludge enriched with salt-tolerant assimilation bacteria (STAB) to assimilate organic matter and ammonia nitrogen in hypersaline wastewater into ectoine - a biomass with high economic value and resistance to external osmotic pressure. The study investigates the relationship between the synthesis of ectoine and nitrogen removal efficiency of STAB sludge in three sequencing batch reactors (SBR) operated at different salinities (50, 75, and 100 g/L) and organic matter concentrations. The research reveals that, under low concentration carbon sources (TOC/N = 4, NH-N = 60 mg/L), the ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency of SBR reactors increased by 14.

Risk management is an activity running through the full life of medical device, which has a significant effect on ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical device. Many researchers do the research on medical device risk management from different perspectives, but few people discuss it from the technical perspective. The risk management issue in technical review of medical equipment was discussed, the reasons of the issue were analyzed, and suggestions were given in this study.
