Herein, 7,308 relevant documents on biochar application for the remediation of heavy metal (HM)-contaminated soil (BARHMCS) from 1991 to 2020 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection and subjected to bibliometric and knowledge mapping analyses to provide a global perspective. The results showed that (1) the number of publications increased over time and could be divided into two subperiods, , the slow growth period (SGP) and rapid growth period (RGP), according to whether the annual publication number was ≥300. (2) A total of 126 countries, 741 institutions, and 1,021 scholars have contributed to this field.
