Exercise improves a wide range of symptoms experienced by those living with multiple sclerosis (MS) and may foster community and a positive sense of disability identity. However, exercise rates remain low. Sustained exercise participation has the greatest likelihood of improving symptoms and requires a theory-based approach accounting for the barriers faced by people with MS that impede exercise participation long-term.

Flow cytometry immunophenotyping plays an important role in recognizing the unique immunophenotype of bright CD56 expression with dim/negative expression of HLA-DR, CD38, and CD45 termed the RAM immunophenotype in this entity.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTo identify new markers for minimal residual disease (MRD) detection in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), we compared genome-wide gene expression of lymphoblasts from 270 patients with newly diagnosed childhood ALL to that of normal CD19⁺CD10⁺ B-cell progenitors (n = 4). Expression of 30 genes differentially expressed by ≥ 3-fold in at least 25% of cases of ALL (or 40% of ALL subtypes) was tested by flow cytometry in 200 B-lineage ALL and 61 nonleukemic BM samples, including samples containing hematogones. This paper reports on an investigation into the application of rhodium complexes of several C(4) bridged diphosphines, namely BINAP, 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (dppb), bis(diphenylphosphino)xylene (dppx) and 1,4-bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)butane (dcpb) as catalysts for hydrogen tolerant methanol carbonylation. In this study, we demonstrated that Nox4 is expressed at a higher level in osteoclasts than that in precursor cells. On the other hand, 2-deoxy-d-glucose decreased the LPS-induced iNOS gene expression even in the presence of glucose (6 gm/l), suggesting that glucose metabolism is linked to the regulation of iNOS gene expression. The intracellular NADPH/NADP+ directly correlated with the extracellular glucose concentration, and the reduction of NADPH generation via a block of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) by treatment with dehydroepiandrosterone or the antisense DNA oligomer of G6PD mRNA resulted in the inhibition of iNOS gene expression.

Imaging experiments were conducted on human finger and chicken bones embedded in cylindrical scattering media using a Clemson multichannel diffuse optical imager. The volumetric optical images were recovered with our 3D finite element based reconstruction algorithm.
