A novel method for highly selective recognition of UO is proposed based on a [Eu(pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid -oxide)] (Eu-PDA) metal-organic framework. Benefiting from the unique chemical structure of Eu-PDA, energy transfer from PDA to UO was enabled, resulting in the highly up-regulated fluorescence of UO. The Eu-PDA probe showed excellent specificity to UO over numerous interfering species, as the intrinsic emissions of UO were triggered.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the possible causal relationship between knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and 41 inflammatory cytokines using Mendelian randomization methods.
  • It was found that granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) levels are negatively associated with the risk of developing KOA, while macrophage inflammatory protein-1 alpha (MIP-1A) is affected as a result of KOA.
  • The findings suggest that G-CSF may influence KOA development, while MIP-1A serves as a downstream effect, with no clear causal links found for other cytokines.

In the past decade, numerous epigenetic mechanisms have been discovered to be associated with cancer. The mammalian SWI/SNF complex is an ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex whose mutations are associated with various malignancies including breast cancer. As the SWI/SNF complex has become one of the most commonly mutated complexes in cancer, targeting epigenetic mutations acquired during breast cancer progress is a potential means of improving clinical efficacy in treatment strategies.

The tunable structure and other properties of organic materials suggest that they can potentially solve the shortcomings of traditional anodes such as graphite. We successfully introduced an organoboron unit into the thiophene-based polymer PBT-2 to construct a donor-acceptor polymer anode. The charge delocalization and LUMO energy level resulting from the unique structure of this material enabled good redox activity and a very stable electrochemical performance in electrochemical tests, with a reversible capacity of 262 mA h g at 0.

As a regulator of actin filament turnover, Arabidopsis thaliana CAP1 plays an important role in plant growth and development. Here, we analyzed the phenotypes of two Arabidopsis cap1 mutants: cap1-1 (a T-DNA insertion mutant) and Cas9-CAP1 (generated by CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing). Phenotypic analysis demonstrated that loss of CAP1 results in defects in seed germination and seedling morphology, with some seedlings exhibiting one or three cotyledons.

The feasibility of the degradation of phenazone (PNZ), a common anti-inflammatory drug used for reducing pain and fever, in water at neutral pH by an electrochemically assisted Fe-ethylenediamine disuccinate-activated persulfate process (EC/Fe-EDDS/PS) was investigated. The efficient removal of PNZ at neutral pH condition was mainly attributed to the continuous activation of PS via electrochemically driven regenerated Fe from a Fe-EDDS complex at the cathode. The influence of several critical parameters, including current density, Fe concentration, EDDS to Fe molar ratio, and PS dosage, on PNZ degradation was evaluated and optimized.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein (HDL), especially oxidized HDL (OxHDL), could generate multifaceted in vivo proatherogenic effects that run counter to the antiatherogenic activities of HDL. It thereby reminded us that the in vitro reconstituted HDL (rHDL) might encountered with oxidation-induced dysfunction. Accordingly, a green-inspired method was employed to recycle non-split HDL from human plasma fraction IV.

Midbrain dopamine (DA) neurons are associated with locomotor and psychiatric disorders. DA phenotype is specified in ancestral neural precursor cells (NPCs) and maintained throughout neuronal differentiation. Here we show that endogenous expression of MeCP2 coincides with DA phenotype specification in mouse mesencephalon, and premature expression of MeCP2 prevents in vitro cultured NPCs from acquiring DA phenotype through interfering NURR1 transactivation of DA phenotype genes.
