Integrating specific immune recognition, a desirable extinction coefficient, and conspicuous photothermal conversion ability into a single-immune probe to enhance the analysis performance represents an appealing yet significantly challenging task. Herein, by delicately manipulating the geometry of plasmonic nanoparticles from spherical to spiky, precise engineering approach-based spiky Au nanocubes (S-AuNCs) are employed to address this challenge, which fully exploits the plasmon resonance absorption-induced photothermal effect. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) method was employed to computationally simulate the electromagnetic and thermal fields while assessing the feasibility of regulating plasmon resonance for enhanced photothermal absorption.

Background: Vascular intestinal disease is a major health concern that often requires emergency surgery in patients with intestinal obstruction, perforation, or bowel necrosis. We aimed to provide data on the incidence, prevalence, mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of vascular intestinal diseases from 1990 to 2021, thereby contributing to the development of health policies.

Methods: Using standardized methods from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease study, we analyzed the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and DALYs of vascular intestinal disease from the perspectives of the sociodemographic index (SDI), regional, and country, along with the corresponding estimated annual percentage changes.

Previous studies have advanced our understanding of paleoclimate features and dynamics in East Asia, particularly within the East Asian monsoon domain (EAMD) since the last glacial period. However, a lack of quantitative reconstructions in the boundary area between tropical and subtropical zones has largely hindered our spatial comprehension of the relationship between precipitation and temperature throughout the EAMD. In this study, we present a continuous pollen record from the Pearl River delta over the past 13.

Hospitalized COVID-19 patients exhibit diverse immune responses during acute infection, which are associated with a wide range of clinical outcomes. However, understanding these immune heterogeneities and their links to various clinical complications, especially long COVID, remains a challenge. In this study, we performed unsupervised subtyping of longitudinal multi-omics immunophenotyping in over 1,000 hospitalized patients, identifying two critical subtypes linked to mortality or mechanical ventilation with prolonged hospital stay and three severe subtypes associated with timely acute recovery.

Dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiota is prevalent among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aims to explore the anticancer roles of the fecal microbiota in inhibiting the progression of colorectal cancer and possible mechanisms. The intestinal microbial dysbiosis in CRC mice was significantly ameliorated by fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), as indicated by the restored ACE index and Shannon index.

Mechanical strain and electric field affect the performance of conductive polymer devices, for which the underlying mechanism should be investigated at the molecular level. This study combines theoretical and experimental Raman approaches to explore the changes in the molecular structure of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) under the influence of mechanical strain and external electric fields. Theoretical calculations reveal the pronounced shifts in the main Raman peak if the conjugating length is changed by the mechanical strain, while in experiments, the peak position is unaffected under tensile and bending strain.

Background: The role of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) combined with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) remains unclear. This study investigated the effect of applying IABP for left ventricle (LV) unloading after VA-ECMO on reducing mortality in patients with CS.

Methods: Data from 5,492 consecutive patients with CS treated with VA-ECMO between January 2017 and July 2023 were collected from the CSECLS registry.

Spider venoms are emerging as a rich source of bioactive peptide toxins with therapeutic potential. Lynx spiders of the genus are small, cursorial hunters that employ complex venom to subdue arthropod prey. However, extracting crude venom from these diminutive arachnids poses significant challenges.

Spaceborne resonance fluorescence Doppler lidar uses metal atoms as tracers to detect atmospheric temperature, wind speed, and metal atom number density from the top of the mesosphere to the bottom of the thermosphere in the global atmosphere. This study proposes a concept of spaceborne Fe resonance fluorescence Doppler lidar (spaceborne Fe lidar). To theoretically analyze the feasibility of this technology, key parameters of the lidar were designed.

Effects of polyphenols including caffeic acid (CA), ferulic acid (FA), epigallocatechin gallate (EG), tannic acid (TA) and resveratrol (R) on physicochemical and structural properties of rice starch (RS) under the extrusion condition were investigated. Extrusion altered the hydration, pasting and rheological properties of rice starch. Adding FA exhibited the best improvement effect on hydration properties of extruded rice starch (E-RS).

Background: Cognitive fusion MRI-guided targeted biopsy (cTB) has been widely used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). However, cTB relies heavily on the operator's experience and confidence in MRI readings. Our objective was to compare the cancer detection rates of MRI artificial intelligence-guided cTB (AI-cTB) and routine cTB and explore the added value of using AI for the guidance of cTB.
