Background: Poor symptom control and exacerbations of asthma diminish quality of life and pose a significant burden to patients and society. Implementing evidence-based management as recommended by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), especially introducing inhaled corticosteroid-containing treatments, has the potential to vastly reduce exacerbations and the high burden of asthma in China. However, domestic implementation of the GINA recommendations has been unsatisfactory, especially in lower-level hospitals; thus, an enhancement to the awareness of and adherence to the GINA recommendations among Chinese physicians is needed to improve patient outcomes.

Here, we discover that 91.2% of Kpn isolates from pulmonary disease samples also produce excess ethanol, which may be associated with respiratory disease severity.

Methods: Stable COPD patients were consecutively recruited from November 2021 to October 2023 and underwent a psychiatric interview to diagnose generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and/or major depressive disorder (MDD) based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition.

Purpose: Vitamin D deficiency (VDD, 25-hydroxyvitamin D < 20 ng/mL) has been reported associated with exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but sometimes controversial. Research on severe vitamin D deficiency (SVDD, 25-hydroxyvitamin D < 10 ng/mL) in exacerbation of COPD is limited.
Patients And Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study in 134 hospitalized exacerbated COPD patients.
Background: To determine the predictive value of interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status and assess the prognostic significance of EGFR and ILA in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: We reviewed 797 consecutive patients with a histologically proven diagnosis of primary NSCLC from January 2013 to October 2018. Of these, 109 patients with NSCLC were found to have concomitant ILA.

Background: Benralizumab is indicated as add-on therapy in patients with uncontrolled, severe eosinophilic asthma; it has not yet been evaluated in a large Asian population with asthma in a clinical trial.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of benralizumab in patients with severe asthma in Asia.
Methods: MIRACLE (NCT03186209) was a randomized, Phase 3 study in China, South Korea, and the Philippines.
In a previous study we have shown that, in the presence of interleukin (IL)-33, repeated, per-nasal challenge of murine airways with () organisms induces human asthma-like airways inflammation. It is not clear, however, whether this effect is unique or manifest in response to other common respiratory pathogens. To explore this, airways of BALB/c mice were repeatedly challenged per-nasally with formaldehyde-inactivated bacterial bodies in the presence or absence of murine recombinant IL-33.

Background: Cough is a common symptom during and after COVID-19 infection; however, few studies have described the cough profiles of COVID-19.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence, severity, and associated risk factors of severe and persistent cough in individuals with COVID-19 during the latest wave of the Omicron variant in China.
Methods: In this nationwide cross-sectional study, we collected information of the characteristics of cough from individuals with infection of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant using an online questionnaire sent between December 31, 2022, and January 11, 2023.
Background: Although computed tomography (CT)-defined emphysema is considered a predictor of lung cancer risk, it is not fully clear whether CT-defined emphysema is associated with the prognosis of lung cancer. We aimed to assess the clinical impact of CT-defined emphysema on the survival of lung cancer.
Methods: In the prospective cohort study of nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the correlation between CT-defined emphysema and clinical variables was analysed.

Objective: The Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) and COPD assessment test (CAT) are used to assess the health status of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respectively. However, whether these questionnaires are appropriate in patients with asthma-COPD overlap (ACO) has not been reported. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the AQLQ and CAT in subjects with ACO.

The Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire is a brief and commonly used screening tool for GAD but has not been validated among patients with COPD in China.
Methods: Stable patients with COPD from a cross-sectional observational study were assessed using the GAD-7 questionnaire and then assessed by a senior psychiatrist to confirm a diagnosis of GAD according to the criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition.
Background: The association between periodontitis and post-bronchodilator lung function is unclear. We aimed to determine the associations between symptoms of severe periodontitis (SSP) and post-bronchodilator lung function in the Chinese population.
Methods: A cross-sectional study (China Pulmonary Health study) was conducted from 2012 to 2015 in a large Chinese nationally representative sample of 49,202 participants aged 20-89 years.
Objective: Both patients and physicians may be hesitant toward vaccination in patients with asthma, which may result in lower vaccine uptake. The aim of this work was to investigate the vaccination rate, the adverse reactions, as well as the factors associated with vaccine acceptance and hesitancy toward COVID-19 vaccination among asthmatic patients in Beijing.
Methods: A multi-center, cross-sectional face-to-face survey was conducted in patients with asthma consecutively recruited from December 2021 to April 2022.
Background: Along with the improvement of lung cancer screening implementation, the identification of interstitial lung abnormality (ILA) is increasing. Currently, there is a limited description of the oncogenic status and ILA subtypes among newly diagnosed non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with ILA in the Chinese population. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, characteristics, oncogenic status and factors associated with overall survival (OS) among NSCLC patients with ILA.

In this review, we focus on chronic cough prevalence, risk factors, and health burden among the general adult population based on recent reports, which will be helpful for a better understanding of the global burden of chronic cough.
Methods: A narrative search of Medline was performed for articles and their lists of references published using the keywords "chronic cough", "chronic bronchitis", "epidemiology", "prevalence", "risk factor", "burden", "quality of life", "adult" and "general population".
Purpose: Screening questionnaires can help identify individuals at a high risk of COPD. This study aimed to compare the performance of the COPD population screener (COPD-PS) and COPD screening questionnaire (COPD-SQ) on the general population as a full cohort and stratified by urbanization.
Methods: We recruited subjects who underwent a health checkup at urban and rural community health centers in Beijing.
Our aim was to systematically investigate the efficacy of Tanreqing (TRQ) injection on in-hospital outcomes among inpatients with frequent or infrequent AECOPD. In this ongoing, nationwide multicenter registry designed to investigate clinical characteristics, management, and prognoses of Chinese patients admitted for AECOPD in real-world settings, we collected characteristics, comorbidities, in-hospital prognoses, and information on the COPD assessment test (CAT) questionnaire, PEACE questionnaire, and modified British Medical Research Council (mMRC) questionnaire from each enrolled patient. Frequent AECOPD was determined as being admitted to the hospital ≥1 time or visiting the emergency room (ER) ≥ 2 times due to AECOPD within a year.

It has been shown that there are also some differences in clinic phenomena between young and elderly asthmatics, however, there is lack of the kinetic comparisons of the changes in the development of asthma between two populations. To better understand the specific pathophysiological manifestations in older patients with asthma, we dynamically and parallelly compared pathophysiological changes in the airways and lung tissues between young and old murine asthma surrogates based on sensitization and challenge with house dust mite (HDM).
