Concentrations of total mercury (Hg) and methylmercury (MeHg) were determined in water, sediment, periphyton, spiders, and amphibians from the streams and desert marsh downstream from Arivaca Lake, Arizona, to better understand their distribution and bioaccumulation. Mean concentrations of MeHg in water ranged from 0.09 to 0.

There exists a complex mixture of biotic and abiotic factors that dictate potential for contaminant exposure among terrestrial and semi-terrestrial vertebrates. Chemical fate and transport in the environment determine contaminant bioaccessibility.

In this study we examined accumulation of metals and organochlorine (OC) pesticides in caudal scutes of crocodiles from Belize and Costa Rica. Scutes from Morelet's crocodiles (Crocodylus moreletii) from two sites in northern Belize were analyzed for metals, and scutes from American crocodiles (C.

Soil, gopher blood, liver, kidney, and carcass samples were analyzed for arsenic, cadmium, lead, copper, and zinc. Hematological parameters, kidney and liver porphyrins, and red blood cell delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) activity were also measured.

In this study, we examined organochlorine (OC) pesticide and mercury accumulation in cottonmouths (Agkistrodon piscivorus) living on a contaminated site in northeastern Texas (USA). Mercury and p,p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (p,p'-DDE) were detected in all snakes examined.

Mercury was found in warbler nestlings and adults inhabiting National Priority List (NPL) sites in McIntosh, Alabama. Food items that were collected from nestlings also contained elevated mercury.
