Depending on the stage of the tumor up to 80% of the patients suffer from cancer-related pain but treatment is often inadequate. Multiple causes can trigger pain and these can be due to the tumor itself, its secondary consequences but also treatment related. A differentiated assessment and individually tailored treatment of cancer-related pain not only improve the quality of life but also reduce the risk of pain chronification.

Objective: Many neurodegenerative disorders share a common pathologic feature involving the deposition of abnormal tau protein in the brain (tauopathies). After traumatic brain injury (TBI), monocyte/macrophage infiltration is a key early step in the development of an inflammatory cascade that leads to substantial secondary damage. Intravenous (IV) immunomodulatory nanoparticle (IMP) administration after TBI limits inflammatory cell infiltration and reduces both behavioral decline and lesion size without any noticeable toxicity. Here we show that there is a dose-response relationship between the amount of IMP administered and tissue damage which plateaus at a well-tolerated dose.

Tumor immune modulation can be achieved using intratumoral injection of different immunomodulators during different phases of the cancer-immunity cycle. Intratumoral infusion catheters have been used in brain tumors, but these are not suitable outside the brain, where breathing motion results in catheter migration. Here, we use microstereolithography to manufacture a barbed sidehole catheter, modeled after the barbs in a bee stinger, where the barbs maintain the catheter position in the tumor, and sideholes within the barbs infuse drug into tumor tissue.

: Although survival outcomes for neuroendocrine liver metastases (NETLM) are improved with liver-direct therapies (LDT), including hepatic debulking and nonsurgical trans-arterial embolization, the benefit is less established in the setting of concurrent extrahepatic disease (EHD). In the present study, Raman optical activity (ROA) is employed to elucidate the structure of a dipeptide, L-alanyl-L-glutamine (L-Ala-L-Gln) and its two differently alkylated N-phosphorylated derivatives. WW domain-containing transcription regulator 1 (WWTR1, referred to here as TAZ) and Yes-associated protein (YAP, also known as YAP1) are transcriptional co-activators traditionally studied together as a part of the Hippo pathway, and are best known for their roles in stem cell proliferation and differentiation. Despite their similarities, TAZ and YAP can exert divergent cellular effects by differentially interacting with other signaling pathways that regulate stem cell maintenance or differentiation. In this study, we show in mouse neural stem and progenitor cells (NPCs) that TAZ regulates astrocytic differentiation and maturation, and that TAZ mediates some, but not all, of the effects of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling on astrocytic development.
