NATIONAL REGISTRY SYSTEM FOR HOME MECHANICAL VENTILATION SUPPORT IN CHILDREN: FIRST DATA FROM TURKIYE.

Introduction: Advances in neonatal and pediatric intensive care have improved patient survival rates, emphasizing the need for respiratory support in cases of chronic respiratory failure, resulting in the establishment of the Turkish National Pediatric Patients Receiving Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV) Support Registration System in 2023. This study aims to present the initial findings of the registry.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, epidemiological and demographic data was obtained from the registry and compared between invasive ventilation (IV) and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) groups.

The Course of COVID-19 Infection in Patients With Chronic Hepatitis Delta.

In coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), older age and co-morbidities are associated with mortality. Among liver disease aetiologies alcoholic liver disease was associated with mortality. Chronic hepatitis delta (CHD) had not been studied.

Treatment Effectiveness of Volar Plates in Distal Radius Dorsal Rim Fractures.

 To assess the efficacy of distal radius volar plates in cases involving dorsal fragments at the Ulnar Corner (UC) and Lister Tubercle (LT).  A retrospective study that included patients with distal radius fractures (DRFs) featuring UC and LT dorsal fragments treated with volar plates. The exclusion criteria comprised lunate facet fractures, UC fragment ratio below 25%, and patients treated with dorsal plates.

Prognostic accuracy of blood cell count ratios in predicting adverse outcomes in crush syndrome patients.

The rationale behind this study was the lack of an accurate predictor to facilitate treatment management and anticipate prognosis in crush syndrome. Our research aimed to investigate the following: (1) Is there a correlation between the ratios of blood cell counts upon admission and the adverse outcomes of crush syndrome? and (2) if such a correlation exists, what are the precise thresholds of blood cell count ratios for predicting these adverse outcomes? In this single-centered and retrospective design study, we analyzed all patients admitted to our hospital after Kahramanmaras Earthquake. The data on length of stay in the ICU and mortality status were obtained using our hospital system.

Defective kinase activity of IKKα leads to combined immunodeficiency and disruption of immune tolerance in humans.

IKKα is a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase that controls various biological processes, either dependent on or independent of its kinase activity. However, the importance of the kinase function of IKKα in human physiology remains unknown since no biallelic variants disrupting its kinase activity have been reported. In this study, we present a homozygous germline missense variant in the kinase domain of IKKα, which is present in three children from two Turkish families.

Non-invasive fibrosis markers are useful in predicting the presence of varices in compensated cirrhosis and variceal bleeding in decompensated cirrhosis.

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of non-invasive fibrosis markers in predicting varices in compensated advanced chronic liver disease patients and variceal bleeding in decompensated cirrhotic patients. Between 1 July 2020-2021, 137 newly diagnosed cirrhosis patients (67 females/70 males; mean age: 53.35) were included in the study.

Tumor-derived RHOA mutants interact with effectors in the GDP-bound state.

RHOA mutations are found at diverse residues in various cancer types, implying mutation- and cell-specific mechanisms of tumorigenesis. Here, we focus on the underlying mechanisms of two gain-of-function RHOA mutations, A161P and A161V, identified in adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma. We find that RHOA and RHOA are both fast-cycling mutants with increased guanine nucleotide dissociation/association rates compared with RHOA and show reduced GTP-hydrolysis activity.

Antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida auris strains: Analysis of clinical strains in a tertiary-care educational university hospital.

Herein, we aimed to investigate the antifungal susceptibility pattern of Candida auris clinical strains in our setting Bahrain Oncology Center-King Hamad University Hospital-Bahrain. C. auris strains isolated from different clinical specimens in the Microbiology Laboratory from October-2021 to November-2022 were evaluated.

MHC Class II Deficiency: Clinical, Immunological, and Genetic Insights in a Large Multicenter Cohort.

Background: Major histocompatibility complex class II deficiency, a combined immunodeficiency, results from loss of HLA class II expression on antigen-presenting cells. Currently, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation stands as the sole curative approach, although factors influencing patient outcomes remain insufficiently explored.

The PPInterface dataset contains 815,082 interface structures, providing the most comprehensive structural information on protein-protein interfaces. This resource is extracted from over 215,000 three-dimensional protein structures stored in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). The dataset contains a wide range of protein complexes, providing a wealth of information for researchers investigating the structural properties of protein-protein interactions.

DiPPI: A Curated Data Set for Drug-like Molecules in Protein-Protein Interfaces.

Proteins interact through their interfaces, and dysfunction of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) has been associated with various diseases. Therefore, investigating the properties of the drug-modulated PPIs and interface-targeting drugs is critical. Here, we present a curated large data set for drug-like molecules in protein interfaces.

Long-term outcome of hepatitis delta in different regions world-wide: Results of the Hepatitis Delta International Network.

Background And Aims: Chronic hepatitis delta represents a major global health burden. Clinical features of hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection vary largely between different regions worldwide. Treatment approaches are dependent on the approval status of distinct drugs and financial resources.

Dysbiosis in pregnant mice induced by transfer of human vaginal microbiota followed by reversal of pathological changes in the uterus and placenta via progesterone treatment.

Objective: The vaginal microbiota dysbiosis induces inflammation in the uterus that triggers tissue damage and is associated with preterm birth. Progesterone is used to prevent labor in pregnant women at risk of preterm birth. However, the mechanism of action of progesterone still needs to be clarified.

Noninvasive Liver Fibrosis Indices as Indicators of Microvascular and Macrovascular Complications in Type 2 Diabetes.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is more prevalent in patients with obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, which are risk factors for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis. NAFLD is related to cardiovascular outcomes in diabetes. We aimed to investigate the relationship between diabetic complications and NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) and Fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4).

The vaginal microbiome composition during pregnancy in a region compromising different ethnic origins.

Background: The vaginal microbiota plays a significant role in pregnancy outcomes and newborn health. Indeed, the composition and diversity of the vaginal microbiota can vary among different ethnic groups. Our study aimed to investigate the composition of the vaginal microbiome throughout the three trimesters of pregnancy and to identify any potential variations or patterns in the Turkish population compromising mixed ethnicities.

Comparison of clinical features of cystic fibrosis patients eligible but not on CFTR modulators to ineligible for CFTR modulators.

Introduction: Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator drugs target the underlying defect and improve CFTR function. They are a part of standard care in many countries, but not all patients are eligible for these drugs due to age and genotype. Here, we aimed to determine the characteristics of non-eligible patients for CFTR modulators in the CF registry of Turkey (CFRT) to highlight their clinical needs.
