Decellularized adipose tissue matrix-coated and simvastatin-loaded hydroxyapatite microspheres for bone regeneration.

Simvastatin (SIM)-loaded and human decellularized adipose tissue (DAT)-coated porous hydroxyapatite (HAp) microspheres were developed for the first time to investigate their potential on bone regeneration. Microspheres were loaded with SIM and then coated with DAT for modifying SIM release and improving their biological response. HAp microspheres were prepared by water-in-oil emulsion method using camphene (C H ) as porogen followed by camphene removal by freeze-drying and sintering at 1200°C for 3 h.

Hormonal and histological changes in the ovaries with high-doses of methylprednisolone administration for acute spinal cord injury: an experimental study.

This study was conducted to investigate the hormonal and histological changes in the ovaries with high doses of methylprednisolone administration for acute spinal cord injury (SCI). Group I (trauma group, eight rats) were subjected to laminectomy and SCI but received no treatment. Group II (steroid group, eight rats) were subjected to SCI and received methylprednisolone (30 mg/kg, intraperitoneally).

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the possible effects of sertraline on blood glucose and lipid levels as risk factors for cardiovascular disease in depressive patients.

Methods: Eight male and twelve female depressive patients, diagnosed according to DSM-IV criteria, were included in this study. The subjects aged 19-50 years, did not smoke, and had normal body mass index (BMI), homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) values, blood pressure, blood glucose, insulin and lipid levels.

Objective: To investigate the long-term effects of a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system on the endometrium and lipid profile of breast cancer patients taking tamoxifen.

Study Design: A total of 142 postmenopausal women taking tamoxifen were included in the study. A levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system was fitted to 70 women in the study group; a further 72 women acted as the control group.

Background: Blunt hepatic trauma is frequently seen, particularly as a result of traffic accidents. Given that surgical therapy may have high rates of morbidity and mortality, a selected group of patients may can benefit from conservative management. We herein present, a group of patients with blunt hepatic trauma who were managed without any invasive diagnostic tools and / or surgical intervention.

Purpose: Many studies have reported both a gender difference in the rates of depression and its treatment by using any of the widely used antidepressant drug groups. Background: Laparoscopic procedures are used clinically in diagnostic and treatment modalities and experimentally as a model of ischemia-reperfusion injury induced by the elevation of IAP. Although some clinical and in vivo experimental studies investigate the results of ischemia-reperfusion injury whether induced by elevated IAP or clamping, there is no in vitro study that has investigated the acute effects of high IAP mimicked by a laparoscopic intervention in any of the intra-abdominal organs (like terminal ileum) on the basis of contractility which represents the motility.

Background: Laparoscopic surgical interventions are being used in trauma patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, but there are limited studies on this subject. The effect of pneumoperitoneum during intra-abdominal hemorrhage has not been elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the hemodynamic, respiratory, and renal effects of pneumoperitoneum in the splenic injury/ hemorrhagic shock model in rats.

A case of rosiglitazone exposure in the second trimester of pregnancy.

Aim: Data about rosiglitazone use in pregnancy is limited. We aimed to present a pregnant woman who exposed to rosiglitazone in the second trimester and the fetal outcome.

Subject: The case was a 42-year-old, multigravid Caucasian woman with a history of diabetes mellitus type II for 4 years prior to her current pregnancy.

Urinary tract infections in unplanned pregnancies and fetal outcome.

Aim: Many pregnant women are exposed to antibiotics for urinary tract infections during pregnancy. Our aim is to bring attention to antibiotherapy in unplanned pregnancies.

Method: Among the 511 cases followed by our 'Toxicology Information and Follow-up Service' for drug exposure during pregnancy, 101 cases, unaware of their pregnancy, had been prescribed antibiotics and urinary antiseptic drugs in the first trimester of their unplanned pregnancies.

Psychotropic drugs in pregnancy: a case-control study.

Psychotropic drug exposure during pregnancy is a common problem. Among the 601 cases exposed to drugs during pregnancy, who were followed by our Toxicology Information and Follow-up Service, 124 cases had used psychotropic drugs for depression, anxiety, or psychotic disorders. As the control group, 248 women, who did not use any drugs were selected.

Serotonin (5-HT) is known to be an important mediator in pain modulation. Some centrally acting agents, like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), modulate pain.
