A search for new physics is performed using events with two isolated same-sign leptons, two or more jets, and missing transverse momentum. The results are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13[Formula: see text] recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 [Formula: see text].

Constrained molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate the structure and thermodynamics of Na(+)-Cl(-) ion-pair association in water-methanol mixtures under supercritical and ambient conditions in dilute solutions. From the computed potentials of mean force (PMFs) we find that contact ion pairs (CIPs) are more stable than all other associated states of the ion pairs in both ambient and supercritical conditions. Stabilities of CIPs increase with increase in the mole fraction of methanol.

Inferring connectivity in neuronal networks remains a key challenge in statistical neuroscience. The "common input" problem presents a major roadblock: it is difficult to reliably distinguish causal connections between pairs of observed neurons versus correlations induced by common input from unobserved neurons. Available techniques allow us to simultaneously record, with sufficient temporal resolution, only a small fraction of the network.
