Since the beginning of the corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, nursing home residents had been under strict quarantine, which greatly affected their lifestyle and health. In this follow-up study, we analysed whether lifestyle changes during the lockdown had an impact on their body composition and nutritional status. For this purpose we determined body composition, nutritional status, and osteosarcopenic adiposity (OSA) prevalence in 24 volunteer nursing home residents just before the February 2020 COVID-19 lockdown and about 15 months into the lockdown.

Article Synopsis
  • Leg pain is a significant symptom of chronic venous disease (CVD) but is often overlooked, and this study explores its relationship with factors like central sensitization, kinesiophobia, and body awareness in CVD patients.
  • Involving 98 patients (mostly female), the study utilized various scales to assess pain severity and psychological aspects, revealing moderate levels of leg pain and body awareness.
  • Findings indicate that central sensitization, kinesiophobia, and leg pain are interrelated in CVD patients, suggesting the need for comprehensive rehabilitation strategies that address these issues alongside pain management.

Osteosarcopenic adiposity (OSA) syndrome, the coexistence of osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and adiposity (either excess or redistributed/infiltrated), has been studied globally in different populations and regions (mostly in East Asia, less in Europe and North America), resulting in varied prevalence. We aimed to determine the prevalence of OSA in a large population of apparently healthy Caucasian adults (18-90 years) and to compare it with the prevalence reported in other studies and other ethnicities. This study included 9719 participants (6412 women and 3307 men), stratified into four age-group categories, and recruited from the general medical practices in Italy.

Background: Compartment syndrome following carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and compression, can have a devastating impact on neuromuscular structures, depending on a time-based dosage.

Purpose: To investigate multidimensional physiotherapy's short-term and long-term outcomes in identical twin cases who developed compartment syndrome due to CO poisoning and prolonged compression.

Study Design: Case report.

The aim of this study was to determine the association between muscle strength, adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MeDi) and cognitive function in community-dwelling elderly. General data, data of body composition and anthropometric parameters, clinical and laboratory findings, cognitive test questionnaires (Mini-Mental State Examination-MMSE, Trail Making Test-TMT, Symbol Digit Modalities Test-SDMT), and nutritional assessments (Mini Nutritional Assessment-MNA, Mediterranean Diet Serving Score-MDSS) were obtained for each study participant. Handgrip strength (HS) was used as one of the key parameters for defining probable sarcopenia, among the Short Physical Performance Battery test (SPPB) (for defining physical activity) and the strength, assistance with walking, rising from a chair, climbing stairs, and falls questionnaire (SARC-F).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the synergy between the diaphragm and pelvic floor muscles (PFM) according to different exercise positions in women with pelvic floor dysfunction. Our secondary aim was to determine the short-term effects of single-week pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) program on diaphragmatic function.

Methods: The cross-sectional study included 64 women with pelvic floor dysfunction.

This mixed-method study aims to determine the effect of the use of mobile virtual patient application with narrated case-based virtual patients as an assistive technology on students' clinical reasoning skills. It makes a notable contribution by exploring the impact of mobile virtual patient applications on healthcare students' clinical skills and their preparation for real-world patient care. In addition, the accuracy of the analysis results regarding the effect on student achievement was analyzed with a second dataset tool, and thus, aiming to increase reliability by verifying the same research question with a different quantitative analysis technique.

Background: Pelvic floor muscle (PFM) training varies according to the functional status of PFM. It is used to strengthen underactive PFM and relax overactive PFM.

Aim: This study aimed to determine the appropriate PFM training positions according to the functional status of the PFM in women with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the severity of bladder functions, fatigue, quality of life (QoL), fall, and pelvic floor muscle strength in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS).

Methods: Patients were divided into two groups according to their Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) bladder scores as Group 1 (EDSS bladder score 0-1, mildly affected group, n = 25) and Group 2 (EDSS bladder score 2-3-4, moderate and severely affected group, n = 21). Pelvic floor muscle (PFM) strength (EMG-Biofeedback device), fear of fall (Fall Efficacy Scale (FES-1)), fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS)), QoL (Urogenital Distress Inventory-short form (UDI-6), and Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-short form (IIQ-7)) were evaluated.

In this study, the researchers aimed to investigate the effects of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) applied with telerehabilitation on urinary symptoms, quality of life, and subjective perception of improvement and satisfaction in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients having lower urinary tract symptoms. Patients were randomly divided into PFMT (:21) and control (:21) groups. The PFMT group received PFMT via telerehabilitation for 8 weeks and lifestyle advice, while the control group received only lifestyle advice.

Introduction And Hypothesis: A multiple-component intensive pelvic floor muscle training (MCI-PFMT) protocol was developed as a neurophysiological-based rehabilitation model to improve neuroplasticity. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the MCI-PFMT protocol on muscle fatigue and symptoms in women with urinary incontinence.

Methods: This randomized controlled trial included 49 female patients with mixed urinary incontinence.

The aim was to evaluate body composition and prevalence of osteosarcopenic adiposity (OSA) in nursing home residents (NHR) and to assess their nutritional status. This research builds on our pilot study (conducted prior COVID-19 pandemic) that revealed high OSA prevalence and poor nutritional status in NHR. The current study included newly recruited n = 365 NHR; 296 women, 69 men, aged 84.

Breast lymphedema is a common complication of breast cancer treatments but there are limited studies about the treatment of breast lymphedema. The aim of this study was to investigate the acute effects of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), compression with exercise on the local tissue water percentage, pain, and stiffness following breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy. Twenty-two patients (52.

Recent guidelines recommend avoiding venipuncture to prevent lymphedema for breast cancer patients. This study investigated whether single or multiple sterile venipuncture procedures develop a systemic inflammation or infection and increase lymphedema in the rabbit ear lymphedema model. Eighteen New Zealand white female rabbits were included.

Objective: Chronic stress has been related to impaired body composition (bone, muscle, adipose tissue), and disturbed autonomic nervous system (ANS), the latter regulated by hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Our objective was to investigate the relationship between salivary cortisol, body composition and heart rate variability (HRV-highly influenced by ANS), in a young student population.

Methods: Body composition and HRV parameters were measured using two portable devices based on multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance and photoplethysmography.
