Patients with metabolic acidosis often present with obscure, multifactorial etiologies, making efficient diagnosis and treatment key to preventing poor clinical outcomes. This case report describes a patient with severe metabolic acidosis in which the underlying cause was not immediately apparent. After a thorough work-up and history taking, the patient's strict ketogenic diet was identified as the most likely source of his illness.

Maternal obesity is associated with an increased risk for prenatal depressive symptoms. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been shown to reduce the risk of prenatal depression. This pilot study assesses the feasibility and acceptability of a smartphone-based MBI among pregnant women with obesity, and its potential for improving maternal mental and behavioral health outcomes.

Aim: This article provides an insight into the effect of safeguarding of vulnerable adults continuing professional development (SOVA-CPD) training for nurses.
Method: 51 participants were recruited from three different cohorts of SOVA-CPD training that had been delivered in east England. A 50-item questionnaire was designed to gather participants' views on their acquisition of knowledge and skills, and perceived changes in practice, and to allow them to describe how they have changed how they work due to the training.
