The results of primary percutane coronary angioplasty in acute myocardial infarction were studied and compared to international standards. We tried to develop new quality indicators for objective comparison. The efficacy of Cordaflex (EGIS) and Adalat (Bayer), both containing 10 mg nifedipine, has been examined in ischaemic cardiopathic patients. The fifteen ischaemic cardiopathic patients were treated with identical doses of Cordaflex and Adalat, simultaneously with unchanged nitrate and beta-blocker therapy. The patients received 30-80-mg identical nifedipine doses daily for 1 week each.

The objective of the study was to investigate the efficacy of different dose levels of bopindolol monotherapy in hypertension. This potent nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker has intrinsic sympathomimetic activity and long duration of action. Forty-four patients with essential hypertension of mild (n = 40) or moderate (n = 4) severity (90 less than DBP less than or equal to 115 mmHg at the end of the placebo period) entered and completed the single-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

The authors used Captopril (Tensiomin, Egis Pharmaceuticals, Budapest) therapy in seven patients suffering from chronic heart failure of ischaemic etiology. As controls, seven patients with dilated cardiomyopathy were involved in the study. All 14 patients received digitalis, diuretic, and isosorbide dinitrate therapy but their condition aggrevated in spite of the therapy.

The authors applied with success the electrical stimulation of the carotid sinus nerve in the case of a hypertension of long duration which was refractory to antihypertensive drugs. For the stimulation of the carotid sinus nerve a Medtronic "Barostat" device was implanted. Since the implantation- or rather since its usage- the blood pressure of the patient decreased to a great extent, and her complaints disappeared.
