[Actual aspects of state control of dietary, clinical and prophylactic nutrition in health care organizations].

A review is aimed to help professionals, who provide state sanitary control of dietary (clinical and prophylactic) nutrition in health care organizations. Taking into account the new modern legislative framework and the scientific and practical publications, the basic requirements for standardization, harmonization and individualization (personalization) of nutritional therapy and monitoring of their implementation in health care organizations by state sanitary authorities has been set out. The attention is focused on the optimization of clinical nutrition, as well as the methods of assessment of balance and nutritive value of the standard diets, their proper correction with dry protein composite blends and other specialized products of dietary clinical and prophylactic nutrition, including foods fortified with dietary and biologically active substances and food supplements (nutraceuticals).

[Sensory analysis. Study of influence of assessors training duration on the panel efficiency].

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the assessors group at different stages of training and estimate the influence of the duration of their training on the quality of the data obtained. The optimal training duration to work with descriptive methods, which is necessary and sufficient for reproducible evaluation of sensory properties has been determined. The training was conducted at three stages during 108 hours.

Y chromosomal haplogroup J as a signature of the post-neolithic colonization of Europe.

In order to attain a finer reconstruction of the peopling of southern and central-eastern Europe from the Levant, we determined the frequencies of eight lineages internal to the Y chromosomal haplogroup J, defined by biallelic markers, in 22 population samples obtained with a fine-grained sampling scheme. Our results partially resolve a major multifurcation of lineages within the haplogroup. Analyses of molecular variance show that the area covered by haplogroup J dispersal is characterized by a significant degree of molecular radiation for unique event polymorphisms within the haplogroup, with a higher incidence of the most derived sub-haplogroups on the northern Mediterranean coast, from Turkey westward; here, J diversity is not simply a subset of that present in the area in which this haplogroup first originated.

Iodine deficiency in Azerbaijan after the discontinuation of an iodine prophylaxis program: reassessment of iodine intake and goiter prevalence in schoolchildren.

The goal of this study was to assess the prevalence of iodine deficiency (ID) in Azerbaijan after the discontinuation of an iodine prophylaxis program by assessing the prevalence of goiter, iodine intake, and thyroid function. The study included 942 schoolchildren (475 boys and 467 girls) ages 8-14 years, from 13 distinct regions. The survey included the following: (1) clinical evaluation; (2) assessment of thyroid volume both by ultrasound and by palpation; (3) determination of iodide in a morning urine specimen using the classic Sandel-Kolthoff reaction in 347 schoolchildren; (4) determinations of thyrotropin (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroglobulin (Tg), and anti-thyroid peroxidase (TPO) in serum (n = 165) and TSH in whole blood spotted on filter paper (n = 942).

[The effect of the zinc-containing preparation Oxyrich in the treatment of chronic saturnism (preliminary results)].

Under indoor conditions the effect of the Bulgarian zinc-containing preparation Oxyrich was studied in the treatment of 12 workers (males) with chronic saturnism. The preparation was orally administered in a dose of 150 mg (0.45 mmol Zn++) daily for 10 days in three equal receivings, after which three day antidotal therapy with CaNa2 EDTA was carried out according to the classic schedule.

Influence of protein calorie malnutrition and fasting on the activities of delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase and porphobilinogen deaminase in rats.

Rats were fed a restricted standard diet (6-8 g daily) for 4 weeks. The erythrocyte activity of delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase showed a very expressed decrease (7.9 times) and its hepatic activity diminished more than twice.

[Evaluation of initial results of treatment of lead poisoning with EDTA].

The results of EDTA therapy were studied in 37 workers of a battery factory consisting of males with varying degrees of occupational lead poisoning (low exposure: 10 subjects, blood lead levels (PbB) lower than 400 micrograms/l with slight alterations in heme biosynthesis; beyond limit of effect: 5 subjects, PbB > 400 micrograms/l; slight intoxication: 19 subjects, with marked alterations in heme synthesis and preclinical signs of intoxication; average degree of intoxication: 3 subjects with clinical signs of intoxication. Clinical symptoms and the following parameters were investigated: blood lead (PbB), delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase in erythrocytes (ALA-D), zinc protoporphyrin (PP) in erythrocytes and delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) in 24-hour urine before and after EDTA chelating therapy. Simultaneous measurement of ALA-D and PP showed high diagnostic sensitivity in detecting lead poisoning in occupationally exposed subjects.

[The evaluation of the efficacy of a 6-month vitaminization of schoolchildren in grades 1 to 8 in the city of Baku].

Investigations were conducted in 110 schoolchildren aged 7-10 and 11-14 years. They had received insufficiently balanced traditional nutrition deficient in animal proteins, vegetable oils, calcium, and, especially, in vitamins. Excretion of ascorbic acid, thiamine, riboflavine, N1-HA was decreased as compared to the lower standard limits 3.

[A comparative study of vitamin status of children 5-6 years of age in different children's institutions].

A total of 205 children were under observation (48 children aged 1.5-3 years in a Baby's Home--spring, 1987; 85 children aged 3-6 years in nurseries with 24-hour stay--spring, 1987; 77 children aged 3-6 years in a Children's Home--spring, 1989). As a result of nutrition reorganization in these institutions vitamin consumption increased due to a more rational selection of food products and the vitamin status of children improved.

Effective control of patients with porphyria cutanea tarda by measuring plasma uroporphyrin.

The clinical value of a very rapid spectrofluorometric method for the determination of plasma uroporphyrin levels was studied during follow-up of 122 patients with porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). [The effect of improved rations and different doses of Glutamevitum on the vitamin status and work capacity of children who started school at the age of 6 years].

The influence of qualitatively different nutrition and additional vitaminization with varying doses of "Glutamevitum" on excretion with urine of vitamins B1, B2 PP and C, as well as the presence of microclinical symptoms of vitamin deficiency and psychophysiological parameters were studied in 120 children (6 groups, 20 subjects in each) who went to school at six years of age. The children received corrected nutrition and vitamins during 6 months of the winter-spring period.
