Article Synopsis
  • The Comet Interceptor mission aims to explore a long-period comet or an interstellar object entering our Solar System, with a focus on its surface composition, shape, and the composition of its gas and dust.
  • Proposed to the European Space Agency in 2018 and approved in June 2022, it is set to launch in 2029 alongside the Ariel mission, utilizing a low-cost approach that allows it to wait for a suitable target comet.
  • The mission will feature a main probe and two sub-probes (B1 from JAXA and B2), providing simultaneous, detailed 3D information about the comet and its interaction with the solar wind, making it unique compared to previous missions.

Robotic and manned exploration of the Moon is the next target in Solar System exploration. The availability of resources such as water ice, iron oxides, helium-3, and rare earth elements, combined with permanently sunlit areas, provides the opportunity for the first settlement, either human or robotic, on the Moon. We used several selection criteria (abundance of water ice, the slope of terrain, usable energy sources, communications, and base expandability) to identify a suitable area for a future base in the southern polar crater Sverdrup-Henson.

Összefoglaló. A veseátültetés a legnagyobb reményt nyújtja a végstádiumú vesebetegségben szenvedő nők számára, akik teherbe kívánnak esni. A veseátültetett beteg terhessége továbbra is kihívást jelent az immunszuppresszív gyógyszerek mellékhatásai, az allograftfunkció romlásának kockázata, a praeeclampsia és a magas vérnyomás káros anyai szövődményeinek rizikója, valamint a koraszülés, az alacsony születési súly kockázata miatt.

Purpose: To evaluate whether vanishing twin (VT) pregnancies following spontaneous conception have a more adverse perinatal outcome than those conceived after assisted reproduction techniques.

Methods: The retrospective cohort study consisted of 316 VT pregnancies derived from a hospital database between January 1994 and January 2016 (81 after IVF/ICSI and 235 after spontaneous conception).

Results: VT was significantly more prevalent after spontaneous conception (in 22.

During field work at the Ibn Battuta Mars analogue sites, two research questions were analyzed: (1) How do we identify sampling sites using remote and local imaging and (2) what kind of information can be gained from shallow subsurface exploration? While remote images help in targeting field activities in general, the connection between observations at different spatial scales for different rocky desert terrain types is not well established; in this, focused comparison of remote in situ images of well-selected analogues would help a great deal. Dried up lake beds as discerned in remotely acquired data may not show signatures of past water activity, while shallow subsurface exploration could reveal the lacustrine period. Acquisition of several satellite images of the same terrain under different geometries would help to support the planning of such in situ work.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the role of placental weight and the placental weight to fetal weight ratio in relation to maternal factors and causes of stillbirth in 145 singleton cases.
  • Results indicated that pregnancies with pathological placental features had significantly lower placental weights compared to unaffected cases, and that conditions like fetal growth restriction (FGR) with pre-eclampsia were linked to diminished fetal and placental weights.
  • The findings suggest that only pre-eclampsia and oligohydramnios contribute to abnormal growth ratios in stillbirths, but causes of stillbirth do not correlate with the placental weight to fetal weight ratio.

We report a systematic spectroscopical investigation of three plagioclase particles (RB-QD04-0022, RA-QD02-0025-01, and RA-QD02-0025-02) returned by the Hayabusa spacecraft from the asteroid Itokawa, by means of scanning electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence microscopy/spectroscopy, and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The cathodoluminescence properties are used to evaluate the crystallization effects and the degree of space weathering processes, especially the shock-wave history of Itokawa. They provide new insights regarding spectral changes of asteroidal bodies due to space weathering processes.

Correlating the Raman and infrared spectra of shocked minerals in Csátalja ordinary chondrite (H4, S2, W2) with controlling the composition by EPMA measurements, we identified and improved various shock indicators, as infrared spectro-microscopic analysis has been poorly used for shock impact alteration studies of meteorites to date. We also provide reference spectra as SOM for the community with local mineralogical and shock alteration related context to support further standardization of the IR ATR based measurements. Raman band positions shifted in conjunction with the increase in full width half maximum (FWHM) with shock stage in olivine minerals while in the infrared spectra when comparing the IR band positions and IR maximal absorbance, increasing correlation was found as a function of increasing shock effects.

To compare the differences in contraceptive characteristics and the knowledge of emergency contraception (ECP) among women who used ECP after unprotected intercourse and those who sought an abortion. A questionnaire survey was conducted in a Hungarian university hospital among women for whom ECP was prescribed after unprotected intercourse (n = 940) as well as women who presented for the termination of pregnancy (n = 1592) between January 1, 2005 and November 20, 2006. Their knowledge of ECP and their experience with and attitudes toward ECP use were targeted.

In this work various factors on the habitability were considered, focusing on conditions irrespective of the central star's radiation, to see the role of specific planetary body related effects. These so called planetary factors were evaluated to identify those trans-domain issues where important information is missing but good chance exit to be filled by new knowledge that might be gained in the next decade(s). Among these strategic knowledge gaps, specific issues are listed, like occurrence of radioactive nucleides in star forming regions, models to estimate the existence of subsurface liquid water from bulk parameters plus evolutionary context of the given system, estimation on the existence of redox gradient depending on the environment type etc.

Great advances are expected during the analysis of drilled material acquired from 2 m depth by ExoMars rover, supported by the comparison to local context, and the joint use of different instruments. Textural information might be less detailed relatively to what is usually obtained at outcrops during classical geological field work on the Earth, partly because of the lack of optical imaging of the borehole wall and also because the collected samples are crushed. However sub-mm scale layering and some other sedimentary features might be identified in the borehole wall observations, or in the collected sample prior to crushing, and also at nearby outcrops.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed autopsy and placental examination results of fetal deaths at the University of Szeged between 1996 and 2010, identifying 140 stillbirths, or 4.69 per 1000 deliveries.
  • The cause of fetal death was determined in 57.9% of cases, with placental insufficiency (46.9%) and umbilical cord complications (25.9%) being the most common causes.
  • It was noted that many stillbirths could likely be prevented through better screening for placental insufficiency, despite the high percentage of unexplained cases.

The astrobiological significance of certain environment types on Mars strongly depends on the temperature, duration, and chemistry of liquid water that was present there in the past. Recent works have focused on the identification of signs of ancient water on Mars, as it is more difficult to estimate the above-mentioned parameters. In this paper, two important factors are reviewed, the duration and the volume of water at different environment types on past and present Mars.

Article Synopsis
  • A primigravid woman at 22 weeks of gestation had a sonogram showing a hyperechogenic lesion in the right fetal lung, indicating a possible congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) with a lesion-to-lung ratio over 90%.
  • The microcystic pattern was somewhat evident in MRI scans, and a fetopsy later confirmed the diagnosis as a pure microcystic CPAM after the pregnancy termination.
  • The text suggests conducting a controlled study to compare the effectiveness of ultrasound versus MRI in diagnosing and monitoring fetal lung malformations.
