Weight-bearing computed tomography has multiple advantages in evaluating the hindfoot and ankle. It can assess hindfoot and ankle alignment, pathology in ankle arthritis, and complications related to total ankle replacements. It is an essential tool in ankle osteoarthritis diagnostic, preoperative planning, and total ankle replacement outcomes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTarso-metatarsal joints and naviculocuneiform joints comprising midfoot is the second most commonly involved joints following the first metatarsophalangeal joint in the foot. However, related factors of midfoot arthritis (MA) have been rarely reported. The bony structure and alignment can be more precisely assessed using Weight-Bearing Computed Tomography (WBCT) than conventional radiographs.

Background: Recognizing preoperative first-ray hypermobility is important to planning hallux valgus (HV) surgery. A recent study showed the minimally invasive chevron Akin (MICA) osteotomy increased varus displacement of the proximal fragment of the first metatarsal osteotomy. The present study aims to evaluate the ability of the radiographic first-ray squeeze test to predict the varus displacement of the proximal fragment of the first metatarsal osteotomy when performing the MICA procedure.

Methods: 606 cases (247 male, 359 female) among 1316 consecutive cases with WBCT data from September 2014 to April 2022 were retrospectively reviewed at a single referral institution. The Cochran-Armitage test was performed to evaluate the trend of prevalence with respect to age group and obesity classification.
Background: The current classification system of progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD) is comprised of 5 possible classes. PCFD is understood to be a complex, three-dimensional deformity occurring in many regions along the foot and ankle. The question remains whether a deformity in one area impacts other areas.

However, when progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD) affects the ankle leading to a valgus talar tilt (Class E), structures and anatomic relationships distal to the ankle joint may be affected. Therefore, this study aimed to assess radiographic parameters of peritalar subluxation in patients with PCFD who either did or did not have a valgus ankle.

These findings have prompted a marked increase in M1 supination in HV surgical correction. No subsequent study confirms these M1 pronation values, and two recent WBCT investigations suggest lower normative M1 pronation values.

The purpose of this study was to present a case series of patients with severe HV undergoing surgical treatment using the MICA procedure and to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes.
Materials And Methods: Retrospective study including 60 consecutive feet (52 patients) undergoing MICA for severe HV.
Background: The objective of this study was to compare progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD) classifications performed using clinical and conventional radiographs (CR) with classifications established using clinical and weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT).
Methods: This retrospective comparative study evaluated 89 consecutive PCFD feet (84 patients). Three readers performed chart reviews and CR evaluations, determining PCFD classifications that were previously published.
Background: Ankle osteoarthritis (AO) is often secondary to prior trauma and frequently presents with joint deformity. Total ankle replacement (TAR) has been shown as a viable surgical option to reduce pain, improve function, and preserve ankle joint range of motion. The standard TAR uses an anterior approach, but recently a lateral trans-fibular approach has been developed.

In addition, a new semiautomatic segmentation software obtains automated 3D measurements from WBCT scan data sets, minimizing errors in reading angular measurements. The study's objective was (1) to evaluate the reliability of WBCT semiautomatic imaging measures in HR, (2) to evaluate correlation and agreement between manual and semiautomatic measures in the setting of HR, and (3) to compare semiautomatic measurements between pathologic (HR) and standard control groups.

Background: The minimally invasive chevron-Akin (MICA) technique has already demonstrated efficacy compared with other known surgical treatments for mild to moderate hallux valgus (HV). MICA combines percutaneous osteotomies with the benefits of modern, rigid internal fixation. The aim of study was to evaluate the radiographic parameters, clinical improvement, and potential complications in moderate to severe HV cases, operated using the MICA technique.

Introduction: Instability/collapse of the medial column has been associated with many conditions, particularly progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD), hallux valgus (HV), and midfoot arthritis (MA). Restoration of first ray length and sagittal plane alignment to restore the foot tripod is essential when treating these deformities. This study aimed to assess early results, healing, and complication rate of a distraction dorsal opening plantarflexion wedge allograft first tarsometatarsal joint fusion (LapiCotton Procedure) in patients with collapse/instability of the medial column.

HV deformity is best evaluated by weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT). The objective was (1) to assess the reliability of WBCT computer-assisted semi-automatic imaging measurements in HV, (2) to compare semi-automatic with manual measurements in the setting of an HV, and (3) to compare semi-automatic measurements between HV and control group.

An expert consensus recently proposed a new classification named Progressive Collapsing Foot Deformity (PCFD) in which the focus was shifted to five different independent foot and ankle deformities and their flexibility or rigidity.

Unlabelled: University students aged 17 to 24 years of age are prone to many risk factors.
Objectives: Identify risk factors related to exploring sexuality and characteristics of consumption of psychoactive substances in students attending medical school.
Methods: 465 Medical students from Santa Casa of São Paulo Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCMSCSP) were prospectively and transversely evaluated during 2005.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the integral attention to the health of pregnant adolescents and adolescent mothers, having follow-up from the Integral Support Program for the Pregnant Teen (ISPPT), with the intention to determine quality of life and prevent repeat pregnancy. A prospective study comprised 85 adolescents attended by the ISPPT between January 2002 and June 2006 who participated in meetings during pregnancy with a multidisciplinary team that provided orientation concerning family planning, self-esteem, pregnancy prevention, motivation to continue education and/or work, and evaluate the postpartum mother-child relationship. The following were analyzed: education level, marital status, contraceptive use, thoughts and attempts at abortion, repeat pregnancy.
