Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the impact of seasonal changes on glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on data from Sugi Cardiovascular Hospital in late 2021.
  • A total of 86 patients were analyzed, revealing significant seasonal variations in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, particularly higher in spring and lower in autumn over the three years studied (2019-2021).
  • Interestingly, despite the pandemic's restrictions, the seasonal trends in glycemic control remained consistent, with no patients contracting COVID-19 during the study period.

Aim: There is accumulating evidence that advanced glycation end products (AGE) play a role in cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with haemodialysis (HD). Carnitine deficiency is frequently observed in HD patients, which may also contribute to CVD. In this study, we examined whether carnitine deficiency was independently associated with increased tissue accumulation levels of AGE in HD patients.
