Osseous healing with a composite of allograft and demineralized bone matrix: adverse effects of smoking.

We report on our use of a composite graft of lyophilized cancellous allogenic chips and demineralized bone matrix (DBM; Grafton; Osteotech, Eatontown, NJ) to manage traumatic osseous defects and nonunions. Data were prospectively collected from all patients who received this composite bone graft between 1996 and 2000. Only acute fractures with bone loss resulting in a uncontained defect and atrophic non-unions were included in the present study.

Suprascapular nerve palsy secondary to spinoglenoid cysts: results of arthroscopic treatment.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the results of arthroscopic treatment in 14 patients with suprascapular nerve palsy secondary to spinoglenoid ganglion cysts.

Methods: Fourteen patients underwent arthroscopic decompression of ganglion cysts associated with suprascapular neuropathy. The most common presenting symptoms were pain and weakness, which lasted an average of 7.

Arthroscopic anterior stabilization and posterior capsular plication for anterior glenohumeral instability: a report of 71 cases.

Purpose: Results after arthroscopic treatment of anterior glenohumeral instability continue to improve as advancements are made in instrumentation and techniques. We present 71 cases of anterior glenohumeral instability treated with arthroscopic anterior stabilization and posterior capsular plication.

Ganglion cysts of the shoulder: technique of arthroscopic decompression and fixation of associated type II superior labral anterior to posterior lesions.

Ganglion cysts of the shoulder and concomitant suprascapular nerve compression should be considered in the differential diagnosis of shoulder pain. They are associated commonly with labral tears, most commonly SLAP lesions. MRI has become commonplace in evaluating shoulder pain and has led to the increased awareness of shoulder cysts.
