Background: In a flipped classroom approach, learners view educational content prior to class and engage in active learning during didactic sessions.

Objective: We hypothesized that a flipped classroom improves knowledge acquisition and retention for residents compared to traditional lecture, and that residents prefer this approach.

Methods: We completed 2 iterations of a study in 2014 and 2015.

We report the following 2 subtypes of progressive limb-girdle dystrophy type 2B: limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2B (LGMD2B) and Miyoshi. The first patient described had weakness in the anterior thigh muscles (LGMD2B) and the second patient had calf muscle weakness and atrophy (Miyoshi). Literature review was performed and LGMD2B was compared and distinguished from other myopathies of similar nature.

The 2014 United States Preventive Services Task Force systematic review found abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening decreased related mortality by close to half. Despite the simplicity of screening, research suggests poor adherence to the recommended AAA screening guidelines. Using the quality improvement plan-study-do-act cycle, we retrospectively established poor adherence to AAA screening and poor documentation of smoking history in our resident clinic.
