A robust adaptive immune response is essential for combatting pathogens. In the wrong context such as due to genetic and environmental factors, however, the same mechanisms crucial for self-preservation can lead to a loss of self-tolerance. Resulting autoimmunity manifests in the development of a host of organ-specific or systemic autoimmune diseases, hallmarked by aberrant immune responses and tissue damage.

Such is the case for the sea cucumber Stichopus horrens, commonly confused with Stichopus monotuberculatus. Here, we used mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and microsatellite markers to examine genetic diversity in Stichopus cf.

Macrophages, in particular, are key regulators of the immune microenvironment that heavily influence particle biodistribution as a result of their uptake. This attribute enables macrophage-targeted delivery, including for phenotypic modulation.

We further show that eLNP upregulated CD40 and induced cytokine production in multiple DC subsets and monocytes.
