Stroke patients who underwent computed tomography (CT) were enrolled in a stroke registry in Akita, Japan, which comprised 7288 first-ever stroke cases during 1999 to 2001. Differences in age and sex were evaluated with respect to type-specific incidences and lesion sites. The incidence increased with age, except for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in men after age 40.

We report a rare case of a dissecting aneurysm (DA) of the middle cerebral artery(MCA) associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH) undetectable on preoperative neuroradiological findings. We report a rare case of multiple aneurysms of the distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) associated with recurrent hemorrhage undetectable on preoperative neuroradiological findings. A 68-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital in April, 2003 because of a sudden onset of headache, back neck pain and nausea. CT scan at the time of admission showed a hematoma in the 4th & 3rd ventricles, and a mild subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in the basal, right ambient & quadrigeminal cisterns.

We report a rare case of recurrent brain abscess associated with congenital pulmonary arteriovenous fistula. A 52-year-old man was admitted to our hospital in October, 1999 because of a sudden stroke-like onset of right hemiparesis, right hemiparesthesia, dysarthria and sensory aphasia. He had a history of previous brain abscess in the right cerebellar hemisphere.
