Cutaneous ureterostomy following robot-assisted radical cystectomy: a multicenter comparative study of transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal techniques.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in perioperative outcomes between transperitoneal and retroperitoneal techniques in cutaneous ureterostomy (CUS).

Methods: Between 2018 and 2023, 55 patients underwent CUS following robot-assisted radical cystectomy. Among the 55 patients, we compared 33 patients who underwent transperitoneal CUS (t-CUS) and 22 who underwent retroperitoneal CUS (r-CUS).

Retroperitoneal cutaneous ureterostomy following radical cystectomy: A multicenter comparative study of robotic versus open surgery.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in perioperative outcomes of cutaneous ureterostomy (CUS) between open surgery (open radical cystectomy, ORC) and robot-assisted surgery (robot-assisted radical cystectomy, RARC), including the stent-free rate, readmission rates due to urinary tract infection (UTI), and changes in renal function.

Methods: Between 2005 and 2023, a total of 37 patients underwent CUS following ORC, while 24 patients underwent CUS following RARC. Perioperative outcomes were compared between these two groups.

Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy in younger versus older adults with renal cell carcinoma: a propensity score-matched analysis.

Purpose: Our study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) between younger and older patients after adjusting for their background differences. We particularly assessed RAPN outcomes and safety in older patients.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 559 patients clinically diagnosed with T1 renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and treated with RAPN between 2013 and 2022 at five institutions in Japan.

Impact of lymph node dissection on surgical and oncological outcomes in patients undergoing robot-assisted radical cystectomy for bladder cancer: a multicenter retrospective study.

This study was performed to clarify the therapeutic and diagnostic roles of lymph node dissection (LND) by examining the impact of LND and lymph node yield (LNY) on oncological outcomes in patients undergoing robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC). Between 2014 and 2021, 216 patients underwent LND during RARC at Tokushima University Hospital and affiliated hospitals. Among the 216 patients, we compared 115 patients with an LNY of ≥ 20 and 101 with an LNY of < 20 to investigate the impact of LNY on surgical and oncological outcomes.

[LAPAROSCOPIC LIVE DONOR NEPHRECTOMY WITH HORSESHOE KIDNEY: A CASE REPORT].

We performed laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy (LDN) on approximately 200 patients in Ehime Prefectural Center Hospital between 2003 and 2016. In 2016, a fifty-something woman who was a donor candidate for her husband was revealed to have a horseshoe kidney through contrast-enhanced computed tomography; other LDN procedures used a retroperitoneal approach, but this one used a transperitoneal approach since the latter approach allowed for a more favorable visual field. The left kidney was selected since renal scintigraphy showed equal bilateral renal function and renal arteries are simpler on the left side.

A case of an advanced renal collecting duct carcinoma in which initial therapeutic effect was achieved with pembrolizumab plus axitinib.

Introduction: Renal collecting duct carcinoma is often found in advanced cancers and has a poor prognosis. Here, we present the case of symptomatic metastatic collecting duct carcinoma in which we observed an initial therapeutic effect of immune checkpoint inhibitors plus tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

Case Presentation: The patient was a 69-year-old male who was referred to our hospital for examination of a right chest tumor and related pain.

An obscure case of chronic unilateral hematuria bleeding point.

Chronic unilateral hematuria due to hemangioma of the renal papilla is endoscopically treatable. Hemangiomas of the renal papilla are usually located at the tip of the renal papilla. However in this case, the hemangioma was not located at the tip of the renal papilla, forcing the patient to exercise until just before surgery and to keep the renal pelvic pressure low to identify the hemangioma.

PD-L1 expression correlated with p53 expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) is an immune checkpoint molecule that attenuates the immune response. PD-L1 contributes to failed antitumor immunity; thereby, blockade of PD-L1 with monoclonal antibody enhances the immune response. Recently, it was reported that PD-L1 was regulated by protein 53 (p53).

Prevalence of and risk factors for postoperative hemorrhage after lower third molar extraction on warfarin therapy: a multicenter retrospective study in Japan.

Postoperative hemorrhage after tooth extraction is a critical and clinically important issue for clinicians and patients receiving anticoagulants. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of and risk factors for postoperative hemorrhage after lower third molar extraction in Japanese patients receiving warfarin therapy. A total of 142 patients who underwent lower third molar extraction between January 2010 and December 2016 were included, and their medical records were retrospectively reviewed.

Risk of lingual nerve injuries in removal of mandibular third molars: a retrospective case-control study.

Background: Through the analysis of clinical data, we attempted to investigate the etiology and determine the risk of severe iatrogenic lingual nerve injuries in the removal of the mandibular third molar.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed for patients who had undergone microsurgical repair of lingual nerve injuries. The following data were collected and analyzed: patient sex, age, nerve injury side, type of impaction (Winter's classification, Pell and Gregory's classification).

(Objectives) Recently, partial nephrectomy has been recommended for patients with T1 renal cell carcinoma to preserve renal function. In this study, we retrospectively investigated the factors that affect renal function after laparoscopic or robotic partial nephrectomy using cold or warm ischemia. (Patients and methods) We reviewed 105 patients who underwent laparoscopic or robotic partial nephrectomy between March 2006 and July 2016.

A 54-year-old woman visited another hospital with complaining of a palpable mass in vagina and dysuria. The mass had gradually enlarged since the past 2 years. Ultrasonography and CT revealed the tumor located between the urethra and vaginal mucosa.

Influence of age on symptoms and laboratory findings at presentation in patients with influenza-associated pneumonia.

Influenza virus infection is a major respiratory infectious disease that generally induces pneumonia. The clinical manifestations of influenza virus infection and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) differ between elderly persons and younger adults. To determine the clinical features of influenza-associated pneumonia, we studied 21 adult patients with influenza-associated pneumonia, as indicated by positive test results for influenza virus antigen.

Hyperleptinemia in A(y)/a mice upregulates arcuate cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript expression.

The effects of leptin on cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) and agouti-related protein (AGRP) expression in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus of obese A(y)/a mice were investigated. CART mRNA expression was upregulated by 41% and AGRP mRNA downregulated by 78% in hyperleptinemic A(y)/a mice relative to levels in lean a/a mice. The mRNA expression of these neuropeptides in either young nonobese A(y)/a mice or rats treated with SHU-9119, a synthetic melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) antagonist, did not differ significantly from that in the corresponding controls.
