We developed a new technique for mitigating catalyst deactivation caused by SO2 in exhaust gases. A series of 0.1 wt %-Pt/TiO2 catalysts with different surface, crystal, and pore structures were prepared and tested for CO oxidation activity in the presence of SO2 and H2O.

This technique is lateral solid-phase epitaxy, where epitaxial crystallization of amorphous precursor is seeded with ultrathin oxide nanosheets sparsely (≈10% coverage) deposited on the substrate. Transparent conducting Nb-doped anatase TiO2 thin films were fabricated on glass substrates by this technique.

The pulse source consisted of the gain-switched laser diode, a pulse compressor, a pulse reshaper, and optical amplifiers, all connected by single-mode fibers. The optical pulse generated by the pulse source had a pulse width of 3.
