The distribution of topological charges on X-ray vortices was measured by differential Fourier space filtering microscope, differential radial Hilbert transform microscope. It was experimentally verified for the first time using a Spiral Fresnel zone plate objective lens. This X-ray microscope is highly sensitive to X-ray topological defects, such as edges and vortices, at the exit-face wave field of objects.

The key difference from normal ferroelectrics is a temperature-dependent inhomogeneous structure and its dynamics. The lead-based complex perovskite Pb(InNb)O is an intriguing system in which the inhomogeneous structure can be controlled by thermal treatment.

The SDU can continuously provide a delay time from approximately -20 to 40 ps with a resolution of less than 26 fs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFerroelectric materials are widely used in modern electric devices such as memory elements, filtering devices and high-performance insulators. Ferroelectric crystals have a spontaneous electric polarization arising from the coherent arrangement of electric dipoles (specifically, a polar displacement of anions and cations). First-principles calculations and electron density analysis of ferroelectric materials have revealed that the covalent bond between the anions and cations, or the orbital hybridization of electrons on both ions, plays a key role in establishing the dipolar arrangement.

The observation of a critically enhanced contrast between V(4+) and V(5+) ions has led us to the unequivocal conclusion of the charge-order pattern of the low-temperature phase of NaV(2)O(5) below T(c) = 35 K. In spite of the possible four types of configuration of the zigzag-type charge-order patterns in the ab plane (A,A',B and B'), the stacking sequence along the c axis is determined as the AAA'A' type by comparison with model calculations.
